I have a QF booking to Singapore on the EK codeshare out of Melbourne (QF8405, operated by EK405).

Using Qantas.com I can select a seat and get all the way through the confirmation page, and then the seat seems to be there, then within a few minutes it vanishes from the booking.

I have been able to determine my EK PNR and look at Emirates.com. I had been preallocated near the back of the cabin and have now selected more ammenable seat, which appears to be holding there for the time being. Unfortunately I still can't get the seat I want as it is occupied

Has anyone else had issues with this?
Know any good fixes?

I don't get what the issue is. As per many codeshares, you should be selecting your seat with the operating carrier not the marketing carrier.
I would take what you can see on the QF site with a pinch of salt.

If the seat is taken as per the EK seat, unless the occupier moves or the block is lifted, I don't see what you can do to get that seat...

On my recent flights my initial seat selection through Qantas.com worked fine and could be seen in my Qantas booking. I saw some better seats so changed them, the change went through but after that coułd not see them on Qantas.com.

The solution to verify was to use the EK website, one tip though your Qantas booking number works ok so no need to know the EK PNR.

That said if Qantas gives you the option to select it should work.

From a customer experience perspective if you let a customer select a seat, it should either (1)work, or (2)throw an error (not work)... It shouldn't "work" and then vanish later.

I hear E and F seats are popular defaults for those who have not selected in advance on an EK777 ;), thats an issue!

I would prefer not to sit there... especially after ~2.5-3hrs enjoying the service in the MEL QF F lounge.

Hi all

Mrs Pineapples has a slight variant of this problem. She booked QF flight numbers on EK metal some time ago, then selected nice seats.

there was a change of aircraft and according to QF website she is still booked into those seats. However the seats are duds, the rows no longer exist!!

When she goes into QF website and tries to update the seat selection the seat map returns a blank, obviously EK systems not talking to QF systems, although the blank suggests there is some sort of update.

Anyone had this problem and found a solution? Ring QF? Ring EK? Redroo, this inability to preselect seats in such cases is a big reason to fly with another carrier in future. Unfortunately.

Cheers skip

Go to the EK site and put in your QF record locator. It will bring up your booking and display the EK record locator and allow you to select seats.

The reverse also works by putting an EK record locator into the QF site.

Many thanks serfty and madrooster. It worked like a charm. AFF at it's best!

The interesting thing is that as soon as I changed the seats on EK, I was able to bring up the seat map on QF, although the selected seats appeared as taken by someone else. Go figure.

They appear as having been taken by someone else because Amadeus probably still has record of the old seat selection (albeit as unconfirmed).

The problem is when you make a change on EK's site (Mercator), it tells Amadeus about the new seats, but Amadeus ignores Mercator if the Amadeus record already has seats against that flight (irrespective of the status of the seat assignments Amadeus has got).

If you wipe out the seat selection in Amadeus first so that there is no seat selection showing in Amadeus, then set a seat assignment using the EK site it flows through over to Amadeus correctly. That seat assignment then needs to be confirmed (HK'd) on the Amadeus end by QF.

Before you hold QF to this broken functionality, it's Amadeus at fault. It not only happens with flights operated by EK, but also AA, AS, WS, and just about any non-Amadeus carrier.

I'm looking at going to europe next year and toying with the idea of flying in J.

However the alternative of Y seats with extra legroom fits the bill. Tthe extra space is all I am after.

Being from Qantas hated Perth I only have a choice of flying on emirates metal if I want a QF flight code.

As a PS I think I have the right to free seat allocation - however given it is emirates metal and I going to be able to book emg seats? My plan was to book 10-11 months in advance and use expertflyer to make sure the seats weren't taken prior to booking.

Even if the flight was on QF metal you'd have to purchase the exit row seats in any case - they're only free for P1 status passengers.

On EK-operated flights emergency exit seating is only assigned at check-in at the discretion of the airport staff. They cannot be pre-requested or reserved at any time before arrival at the airport.

Interesting, I thought you could. Perhaps it is just every other seat that you can pick.

Thanks for the info - not sure I want to get caught in a standard Y seat for 20 hours

Especially the 10 across on the 777"s, which are the only ones they fly into Perth.

Are the 777's no good?

It I am going J - I am more than likely going to fly Qatar anyway. No need to use my QP when flying J and have access to the lounges regardless.

We are flying J in the 777.....OK evidently on the 200LR but not so good on the 300ER. Haven't flown Qatar:)

Seats in EK's forward bulkhead row in each cabin are usually blocked from advance seat selection also. Unfortunte that.

Cheers skips
