I note that Reward Flights receive SC's currently.
Does anyone know if I use points to upgrade to Business I will get SC's at the business rate?
I'm looking for 90 more SC to get to WP and this seems like a good way to help me get there.

I did in January. The problem is, and I do like VA, you never quite know whether it is a cough up, or you really should earn the double SC's.

2 weeks back I had two upgraded flights, fare showed as Z in J class. I had the points in 24hrs and they were awarded as J class. Upgraded again on my next flight and same again, credited as J class. So here's hoping it's no stuff up. Perhaps they are being extra generous at present given the issues that have occured.

According the VA the promotion was only intended for actual reward tickets purchased using points (+pay).

However, as the upgrade tickets are now booking into the same class and reward tickets and start with the 795* ticket number required to qualify for the promotion, they can't really deny giving you the status credits.

Personally, mine posted as 'Not valid for earn' but getting to Plat line to submit a points request to a manager for consideration, the allocated the status credits.

What class does a complimentary used to upgrade a flexi get ? This could end up getting the extra SC's too. That would be nice. Especially since the complimentary value has been watered down with the sector rules changing.

They can enforce the lower class status credits, as that is what is written into the T&Cs. Whether their system can tell the difference is another matter

... or whether attention to it is called ... although that's probably moot now ...

Perhaps... but my point of view is based on the T+Cs for the promotion.

*To be eligible for this offer, you must book and travel on a Virgin Australia (VA) marketed and operated flight in a Reward Seat Fare Class (X, P or Z) between 13 January and 30 June 2013, and all flights must be booked and ticketed directly by Velocity Frequent Flyer (featuring a ticket number beginning with "795"). Economy Reward Seat bookings will earn Status Credits at the Discount Economy rate, Premium Economy Reward Seat will earn at the Premium Economy rate and Business Reward Seat will earn at the Business rate.

An upgraded ticket meets these T+C's.

I too had a Plat upgrade into Z Class with the corresponding status credits being awarded. Yesterday I had a second Plat upgrade (which before getting my boarding pass appeared as "K Class with an upgrade" or similar in "my booking"). However, I was early at the airport and "flew ahead" and was rebooked into I Class when checking my bag in. So fingers crossed....

K Class is a Flexi and I is business, so it looks like the Fly-Ahead may see you earn Business Status credits from being in I class.

Sorry for the dumb questions but does this mean if I book a normal flexi fare and use comp upgrades ill get j class sc and points? Or does it only apply if I book on points and pay then upgrade using comp upgrades?

Anecdotal evidence suggests that at present using complimentary upgrades is resulting in a high percentage of people receiving business class status credits due to the promotion of earning SC's on award/redemption fares (which are the same fare buckets as the redeemed upgrades).

It wasn't for me - I did lots of upgrades (maybe 10 sectors?) in the half price points upgrade period, and after it, and all credited as Flexi.

Flexi to J points upgrades and comp upgrades earn J SC's post Sabre, well they did for me 2 weeks ago.

Also flew 2 weeks ago. Flexi fare upgrades using points on the 1st flight and my complimentary upgrade on the return. Received SCs at the Business Class rate for both flights.
