Hi All, - Have just booked the family of 4 (all adult fares) a J class RTW airfare. First and last flight is QF so will accrue QF Status and points i am told, but the rest of the trip is UA (cross Coast in the US) and the rest is LH.
I am currently Velocity GOld and have been told i can have the points linked to an SQ Krisflyer account and then transfer the points only to Velocity but i wont be able to transfer the Status credits. Any thoughts on the best way to get the best bang for buck out of the status credits and points? Cheers.

Krisflyer is a reasonable programme to credit to. It would earn 125% of base miles. Can redeem on Virgin or Star Alliance and has a good redemption chart with low surcharges
As you say you wont earn Virgin SCs
You would lose significant value transferring miles to Virgin so I would keep them in Kris. Be careful that they will expire in three years

Two alternatives I would also consider would be United (good redemption table and very low surcharges) and Avianca. Both earn 200%* base miles for J and both can be topped up with bought miles. Likely to need some homework to optimize redemption though:)

Lufthansa miles.are good for redeeming on their own F product but very difficult to earn them in Aus any other way than flying

I dont think any of those programmes have family pooling of miles. (Virgin is a very rare programme that allows pooling of status)

Edit: *200% on the LH legs, 150%/125% on the United ones

Welcome to AFF, DS.

I mostly agree with andye and think SQ Krisflyer would be the way to go. I don't think KF allows family pooling though - although you will lose a bit in the transfer, maybe best to create KF accounts for all 4 in the family, transfer them to the corresponding Velocity accounts, then pool them? By themselves, the miles earned won't be all that much use in each KF account.
