I would need to see the evidence that the majority of people in Brunei, with free will, accept sharia law, and do not believe in equality for women. If that can be shown, then good on them. And indeed the current campaign might be misplaced.
So you don't believe Yassmin Abdel-Magied when she said on Q&A that Islam is the most feminist religion.

As to what muslims believe how about this.
"“If you have had a rough week or are feeling down in the dumps, I have just the news to cheer you up. The Muslim country of Brunei is implementing hudud to crack down on sodomites and fornicators!”
Daniel Haqiqatjou. From Havard and an Islamic scholar.

Now I couldn't find any research exclusive to Brunei but there is this-
The World’s Muslims: Religion, Politics and Society
I can't see why muslims in brunei would be any different to their neighbours Malaysia and Indonesia where 86% and 72% respectively support Sharia law.

Interesting article thanks, Drron. Interesting to note the majority of muslims say they favour democracy... but this missing from Brunei. And many other principally-Islamic states. If those states were to have democratic systems, the results might be different.

The article seems to limit the discussion on equality to the wearing of the veil and inheritance. But it is of course much broader than that. Including issues of abortion (one of the aspects the survey sought views on).

The other take-out is that the hudud doesn’t seem to be so widely supported (sharia for family and property law is). If you were to combine democracy (clearly favoured), with the views of the people on hudud (not so much in favour), it might be that Brunei doesn’t in fact, as a majority, support its introduction. But it’s probably unlikely we’re going to find that out any time soon.

Saw this thread, read the OP, but will not waste any more time. People need to learn that the world is not all the same, and respect that.

This is a puzzling statement. Given your years of life expereince I have no doubt you understand why some issues get more attention than others.

So that opens the question of why you are taking a stand to invalidate the current public reaction to Brunei? Most people would agree you have to start somewhere, but you would rather nothing happens unless every country gets the same treatment?
Firstly the majority of people don't care what Brunei is doing.

Secondly trying to enforce your own values on someone who believes in the complete opposite is wrong and could cause trouble.

Please don't campaign in Brunei to remove the reference of mother and father from schools and gender from birth certificates. It's wrong here and does not even have majority support.

And yet it is thanks to those advocating change that your daughter wil be able to grow up trans, or gay. It is thanks to those advocating change that your daughter will be able to grow up protected from sexual harrassment, or bullying. It is because of those who fight for equality that your daughter will get equal pay. And have equal rights in her relationships.

It's very easy to sit back and take all these things for granted and say you don't want change.

John’s doesn’t have a daughter- he has a person now gender is no longer defined by biology

Correct and that person doesn't have a mother or father.

Sad state of affairs how a minority pushes the majority on to their agenda.

P.S. @MEL_Traveller if my daughter happens to be gay or trans she will still be my daughter and I will always be her father.

The end of the white Australia policy. The start of recognition of Aboriginals in the 1967 referendum. Equality for women. All of these things started with a minority.

Australia has come a long way since ethnic (including 'wog') jokes were acceptable. Or it was ok to wolf-whistle at women. Or that domestic violence was largely ignored.

I'm not sure any of us would disagree these changes have been for the better? And they all start small.

If you enjoy all these protections, why would you not want to extend them to others?

But there have been many other changes foisted upon Australians by the minority leftist intelligentsia and their mates that have not left Australians any 'happier.'

I won't discuss them as this is an aviation site, and such talk belongs elsewhere - but suffice to say that some, overall, have been very deleterious.

And let's not forget that today it seems trendy to pillory Christians, yet this group has done more than atheists and agnostics combined to advance societal welfare.

Not all changes have been good. My brother says it very well. @Melburnian1 says it quite well.

Political correctness is wrong.

Feminism is out of control and is the single biggest cause of the breakdown of the family and western society in general.

P.S. We came here when I was 8 years old. I loved being called a wog. I loved the banter.

My parents recall migrants being told by the foreman "Speak English, speak English" seriously and jokingly at the same time. You couldn't say that today. I work in an office where in one side of the room they speak Cantonese all day, the other side they speak Hindi, and other side they speak Tagalog and I'm expected to perform at 100%. Impossible and I don't have to accept it.

Damn right Johnny - thems women should be seen and not heard!! How dare they be asking to be treated equally!!!

Silly comment (and not even funny). I'm sure JohnK didn't mean that at all: what he was stating how the sexes complement each other, but are not identical in their talents. God created us to complement each other.

Radical feminism's aim has been to destroy the historic respect that existed (and served society very well) between the sexes. It's led to a lot of unhappiness for both sexes in the West. Thankfully most nations in Asia, if not all, reject radical feminism.

JohnK didn't mention "radical feminism", he mentioned "feminism". Without feminism, women wouldn't vote, they wouldn't be able to work in certain occupations, by and large they wouldn't be able to work after being married, they wouldn't be getting equal pay for equal work, most likely they would be stuck in abusive and/or adulterous marriages. The list goes on.

Radical feminism is a different beast, perhaps.

Treated equally? The radical feminists have ensured it has moved well past seeking equality a long time ago.

But please keep believing it's all about equality. After all when you're trying to infiltrate something you don't want to let them know your plans ahead of time. At the current progress men won't be around much longer but hopefully western civilisation is not around for that to happen.

Society in general is dumb. I used to criticise my brother quite a lot and still do but glad he researches a lot of these topics and as far as I aware is totally informed and not blindly led.

JohnK has now mentioned 'radical feminism', as I predicted.

The last time I checked with friends, there's apparently women committing adultery as well as men. Takes two to tango.

Unfortunately the media seems to treat men as second class citizens, and more often than not automatically as 'the bad guys' when untested accusations are made about behaviour.

Look how little criticism the trendy "independents" (really "Labor/Greens'), two women, are receiving from the media as they stand in a Sydney seat that has the former Prime Minister, Mr Abbott, also standing. He gets constantly criticised even though in his public and private life (firefighting, lifesaving etc) he's done far more for Australians than the two of them ever will. Yet one has radical, leftist agendas and the other one may, but pretends she's a 'disaffected Liberal.' Nonsense!

Yes Zali Steggall says her connection to the Liberal Party are through her mother who was very active in the Liberal Party in the early 80's in Maitland.I happened to be president of the Maitland Branch then as well as being the Campaign Manager in 2 State elections in the early 80s.I then stood for the Federal seat in 1984.Her mother was unknown to me and certainly was not a donor to election campaigns.

Thanks to those peddling left-wing lunacy, John's daughter can now get pregnant and get an abortion at 12 without the parents having a clue after being taught to fantasise about intercourse at primary school and can even obtain government funding to mutilate her own genitals if a teacher spots her having fun playing with a toy truck.

Correct - you should insist on your child (or, rather, the government-owned human currently in your custody) addressing you as Parent 2. Beware, however, that if Parent 1 decides to separate and seize custody from you and commences co-habitation with a new Parent 2 on the same point of the never-ending gender spectrum as it, Parent 1 has the right to turn the child's birth certificate into a government-approved false instrument that lists Parent 1 and the new Parent 2 as the only parents of the child notwithstanding biological and genetic fact.
