Well, the current 1st class best value fare that I know of is the TIP-SYD fare of $4000 1st class return, but of course may not be of great use starting down under

The business class ATW DONE4 fare ex BKK is approx $7200 iirc so is a good choice, plus of course you get 4 useful sectors for travel within SWP

The standard products like OneWorld Explorer or Global Explorer are not discounted appreciably for purchase in Australia. The only way to get a discounted price on them is to take Mr Noble's advice and start in BKK or TIP or CAI or similar. But you have to get there first and making the booking/purchase arrangements can be tricky - but plenty have gone before you  .

There are occasionally special RTW deals that are put together by a few partner airlines. But most of these are restrictive regarding routing (limited by the small number of airlines available on the fare) and mostly economy only.

The Australian price for a standard OneWorld business class RTW product is $9539 and first class is $13,269.

NM, you need to update your prices!!

Business: $9,609
First: $13,539
I would be  if the taxes haven't increased as well.

If interested in starting an ATW trip ex BKK, drop me a line; I know a decent travel agent in BKK who can sort the tickets out plus courier them down to australia to save you even having to stopover there if you dont want to

Sorry, where is TIP???

Wasn't there a thread earlier this year that had the cheapest RTW out of Tonga (or is my memory worse than I thought)???

And with that I am now a freak!!!

Believe it or not, it is Tripoli, Libya. And yes, that is exactly where Dave is meaning. Just ask him about the connection time between the Air Malta inbound and BA outbound flights  .

Ahh... On a good day the KM flight MLA-TIP departs at 12:00 and arrives at 13:00 and the BA flight TIP-LHR departs at 16:00 and arrives into LHR at 17:55. Can then continue that evening or the next moning ozward.

I am now planning to spend a night in TIP and have a half day tour before setting off

How about KUL-PER (return) for MYR 600 (2 people must fly)?

Check the SQ website (but tell it you live in Malaysia)'

Umm, what does that have to do with RTW First or Business Class fares? Unless buying a DONE3 ex-KUL?

At regular published prices on Qantas it will be cheaper to use a OneWorld Explorer fare. However, there are often much cheaper options in business class if you don't want to stick to the OneWorld/Star Alliance standard products.

Assuming KHI is your Pakistan destination, your only OneWorld option is CX from HKG.

It may be worth checking EK (Emirates), as I suspect they will offer one of the better fare/service options if you just want to include KHI and LHR.

Not to mention considerably less back-tracking required - KHI to/from DXB (Dubai) instead of HKG (Hong Kong).

And of course the ability to earn Velocity points :D .

Hi Dave,

This is intriguing. How can one not stopover (ie visit) BKK if the RTW is supposed to commence there? Is it legal?

Easy done. You buy through the TA as Dave suggests and have the ticket posted to you. That ticket commences and finishes in BKK. You then purhase a separate ticket (money or FF points) to get you to BKK before your first flight on the OWE, and to get you home from BKK after you last flight on the OWE fare.
