Rockfords discussion

Tried to access TWF review but not a member - find it odd as ‘15 is always touted as a good vintage for the Barossa.
Their reviews are copyrighted and I have been reminded not to post them here - they didn’t like any of this year’s releases but especially the flagship 15 BP and 18 BS

Has anyone seen a review from one of the others?

Nothing on HH or JH on either of these 2 wines.

Just wondering if anyone has had one of the 2011 'difficult' year BPs.

A couple of days ago I accidentally pulled a 2011 BP from cold storage instead of the bottle next to it - a 2011 GSM. The shape of the bottle should have alerted me, but it didn't until I had the cork in my hand. Picked both up from Buzz's wine tour in April 2015.

Double decanted it to speed aeration and drank half with my meal - a pizza! While it slipped down easily enough I wouldn't say that it was a great wine. OK but not remarkable. Although it was still quite young I didn't get the impression that it was going to improve much. Drank the remainder with a steak the next night which confirmed my opinion from the previous night.

Had a few 2011 vintage BP last year, thought it was good and worth the $65 price paid. TBH Rockford are very good at marketing, BP is nice drop but I wouldn’t never pay more than the RRP as there are far better options out there for the ridiculous price this wine is sold outside CD.

100% agree. Stopped buying Rockford about 5 years ago. Extremely overpriced. It's gotten to ridiculous price levels like Penfolds.

What would be a better value close comparison to the Rockford DrRalph? Always wished there was a ‘wines like this’ function on JH or other sites

I really like rockfords but the BP isn't my favourite wine, the Cabernet is far superior.

FWIW - Rockford at Cellar Door prices are generally good value wines.

Agree that on the secondary market they can be silly. IMHO Penfolds and Henschke have gotten silly on both the primary (CD / release) market as well as the secondary market.

This tells me you're not buying at the cellar door price and/or never bought consistently enough to be a stonewaller... As penegal said above, Rockford CD prices are generally good value and not even close to Penfolds/Henschke/Torbrek etc prices

Unlike Rockford, Penfolds wines are usually more overpriced at CD (classic tourist trap). As many here know it’s not rare to find some of their premium wines on sale. I have a fridge full of Penfolds, none of which bought even close to CD RRP.

I’ve purchased all but the BP as I wasn’t allowed when I placed my order. Haven’t decided yet if I should grab a couple.
