I just wanted to report on my refund experience.
I was booked to fly with Qantas Monday morning. I rebooked myself onto Virgin to fly at midday on Monday at about 6:30pm Saturday night. A refund was requested for my flight Sunday night by phone. I submitted my Virgin fare for the fare difference using the web form at the same time.
I received a phone call from qantas to request card details (original purchasing card has been cancelled) for payment of the fare difference on Tuesday afternoon. Excellent turn around. I have now received an email to say my original fare will also be refunded.
For anyone else getting a refund and the fare difference, just watch the calculation. Qantas calculated my fare difference amount by including half for their $7.70 card booking fee, as it was a return leg. The email about the fare refund does not include this fee, which is how I calculated the fare difference claim when I submitted it. Effectively, I'll be $2.85 short. Yes, big bikkies; I'm not going to waste a phone call over it. But just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone else would be worried about it. Will report back if the refunded amounts turn out to be different.
