Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Qantas formal comms on the change and their downgrade policy:

Effective for travel on/after 29 September 2014, Qantas will operate the reconfigured B747 aircraft on services between Sydney and Hong Kong. However, the A380 aircraft will operate on this route to support additional capacity requirements during peak seasons.

The B747 aircraft feature 3-cabins – Business, Premium Economy and Economy – reconfigured with our flagship A380 product, including our award-winning fully-flat Skybed in Business. First Class will no longer be available on Sydney-Hong Kong services. During times where the A380 operates this route, the seats in the First cabin will be allocated to our most Frequent Flyers travelling in Business, who will still receive Business Class service but in the A380 First suites.

Travel Agents will be notified of these changes via their GDS schedule change queue progressively from 21 May 2014. Qantas will send a status change to the affected flights with a UN/TK message and a SSR or RM remark in the PNR. The customers booking and e-ticket will require updating prior to travel.

Customers with existing First class bookings on/after 29 September 2014

Customers with existing bookings in First Class for travel on/after 29 September 2014 will be re-booked into the Business Class cabin on the same flight. Customers with existing tickets will be provided with a fare adjustment and refunded the fare difference for the involuntary downgrade from the First to Business class cabin.

The Fare Refund table outlining the fare adjustment due can be found by referring to the Involuntary Downgrade policy.

Alternatively, all passengers holding Qantas (QF-081) tickets will be entitled to a full refund.

All tickets must be reissued prior to departure to reflect the change in cabin. The ticket can be reissued by the Travel Agent in order to retain control of the ticket for future servicing, using authority ‘590600’ with no additional collection or refund.

so - this says customers will get a fare adjustment AND refunded the fare difference. So the fare adjustment is an additional compensation payment?

I'm on one of the last 388 services as well - 20 September.

Got a call from QF today with the bad news that I will be downgraded from F to J for my SYD-HKG-SYD flight in December.
My reserved seats changed from 1A to 5B.
Oh well, 1st world problems I guess...
Fingers crossed they will bring back the A380 as I'm departing just before Xmas.

I am soooooo booking J on those A380 flights :)

Looks like CX does have a J competitor after all :)

The A380s should be loaded for Christmas, chances are your flying on a day they are not on.

Such should be $1000 for F to J downgrades and $800 for A to D downgrades.

That's for each segment, so up to $2000 return.

The original fare was 180k points + $740, my first ever FASA didn't quite go as planed :(
I was told that I will get back 60k points but no cash refund.
As I was just about to enter a meeting when I received the call from QF I didn't have time to check the difference between F and J.
Was I ripped off?

indeed, but the earlier post by markis10 suggested pax would get the fare adjustment AND fare difference refunded. not sure if that was a translation issue, or whether that is the official position.

it would seem fair that there is compensation for the downgrade as well as fare difference.

So for a FASA, am I correct in saying that the remedy for the downgrade to J is refund of 30,000 points?

Any thoughts on AA awards?
I have SYD-HKG-BKK-HKG-SYD with QF/CX.
With the short legs still in F, I'm thinking that no refund will apply as it's now, effectively, a mixed class booking.

That appears to be the case. They're effectively just asking us to pretend we'd made business class bookings in the first place.

CX are notorious for aircraft swaps. You might end up in J for some of those short legs. If I were you I would just re-book this as a J award and get the miles back to your AA account.
