Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

CX are notorious for aircraft swaps. You might end up in J for some of those short legs. If I were you I would just re-book this as a J award and get the miles back to your AA account.

Yes, I'm half inclined to do that, but the flights aren't until December, so I'll ponder on it for a while.
I haven't yet tried CX in F so I was somewhat looking forward to it.

But we all know they only thing that is consistent with QF is inconsistency.

Or even consider BA F to SIN and connect from there - if that suits your plans...

What else could we reasonably ask for?

First, a suitable compensation would be to credit the original amount of F SCs. Personally, I don't care that much about SCs but I'm sure others who booked FASA counted on them to retain status.
Second, I don't know if there is a difference in $$ between JASA and FASA. But if JASA is cheaper to book then I believe some cash should be refunded as well, not only points.

Those affected may also lose access to the F-Lounge in SYDNEY as well. It would be disappointing for those who don't have access to the F-Lounge in their own right.

Slightly OT, but I have just booked Syd - Hkg for December/January, and both flights are booked on the A380.
When selecting seats, the F cabin (sold as J) does not come up. Has anyone been able to successfully select a seat in the F cabin for these flights?

for those on paid F fares, you'd want to look closely at the proposed 'fare adjustment' and see how that compares to cancelling your current F ticket and rebooking in business class. The fare adjustment alone may not cover the fare difference. Although the earlier excerpt suggested the fare adjustment may be in addition to a fare refund.

mFASAs and paid tickets: you could ask for original routing credits - points and SCs in F class. This is a commercial decision to cut a service and there is no reason why the other elements of your agreement (barring the class of service on board) with Qantas cannot be satisfied.

If you are on an award ticket or mFASA and don't have platinum status, you could request your seat assignment in the F cabin be preserved. Why should QF take that away from you and give it to a platinum member? Giving the benefit to another member gives Qantas a great benefit, to your detriment!

F lounge access in HKG may be a bit of an issue, but there is no reason why F lounge access cannot be preserved in SYD.

The refurbished B747s don't have F cabin.

fair point - but where such services are operated by A380s those seats could reasonably be asked to be retained.

Agree, but need to be VERY flexible with dates. I tried to request the A380 and it was not operating within 3 days from my original booking.

I broke the bad news to Master FM's girlfriend that Qantas would no longer fly the A380 to Hong Kong (she goes back there at least once a year). she immediately said she would swap to Virgin, so then I gave her more bad news....

the a380 is operating all through December or something. Anyone with an mFASA should request F seats to be preserved.

It's luck of the draw with the A380s in December. My scheduled flight is close to Xmas and only B747s are operating on the dates I need.
I hope QF will swap some planes when get closer to December.
Probably just wishful thinking...

Schedules are now in the GDS - 744 every day in October, from airlineroute.net

QANTAS starting 29SEP14 is changing operations to its Sydney – Hong Kong service, as the airline ends Airbus A380 operation to Hong Kong on year-round basis. The airline will operate 3-class Boeing 747-400 aircraft on daily basis from this date, replacing 5 weekly A380 and 2 weekly 4-class 747-400.
However, based on latest adjustment as of 22MAY14, QANTAS appears to continue 5 weekly A380 service from 11DEC14 to 26JAN15, however First Class service is not offered.
QF127 SYD1125 – 1745HKG 744 D
QF128 HKG1945 – 0810+1SYD 744 D

Between 11DEC14 and 26JAN15, A380 operates Day x23

dates for A380 published previously :)

don't fall of your seats...I actually agree with this:shock: ...if you are on an existing full paying F/C booking on the days that will still have the A380 (just with the J/C service)..you should be able to 'keep your seat'.. I don't think this is an unreasonable request/retainment... in addition, I also think ALL the F/C 'downgrades' should still be able to have access to the First Lounge as per the original F/C booking...all until those particular F/C pre bookings have been 'exhausted'...ie: those that booked F/C before the cabin option was no longer 'bookable'... hope that was a bit clear as to my thinking!! :D

given those circumstances...I would be asking for this...nicely of course...you get more when you ask nicely ;)

Really, do you? My return flights fall between 11Dec and 26Jan where QF is supposed to operate 5 weekly A380 service. When I asked to check availability within 3 days of my original bookings I was told there are no A380s operating on those dates.
Hmm... Makes me wonder if I was too easy with them. Maybe I should have been more demanding....
What I don't understand is, if they don't offer the F seats to P1s originally booked on F then to whom exactly?

I would be having further discussions if I was you.

did I say ANYWHERE that QF would ACTUALLY do this???? I was posting my OPINION and SUGGESTING...'you never know' ..'give it a try'... AND responding to MEL_Travellers post

there's a huge difference between being 'demanding' and arming yourself with knowledge and putting forward your case
