Recent Decline of VA service

Princess Fiona, follow my previous post on the east to West Coast services you're about to do, that's more like what you're going to get

Yeah I get that the cuts are because every airline these days cough about how they make no money, but Virgin always sells itself on being the airline that still holds the glamour of the old days... so if they're not going to keep that glamour they should stop advertising it.
For me tho, if Delta was offering a SYD to LAX flight for 1,000 and Virgin was offering it for 1,200 id gladly pay an extra 200 if it meant you'd get a better experience.

id rather them up the cost a bit and keep the amenities.

After quite a few VA flights over the previous 2 months, today I was back on QF flying 4 legs in one day. The difference in the attitude of the crew was like chalk and cheese. On every QF leg today was I was greeted by name and made feel welcome.

Never have I experienced this on several VA flights in recent times.

VA need to poop or get off the pot and decide if it wants to be LCC, premium, or even some type of obscure hybrid.

Flying PER-MEL-CBR-SYD-PER over the weekend in J. Will see how things look now since I last flew them in January. Interesting times....

Sounds about right, the only time I ever got really good service with VA was after they started to roll out J on the 737's

After that it went downhill and my last few trips in March were equivalent or worse than Jetstar, except they gave me 2 tiny crackers and a tiny bit of cheese

I actually haven't eaten one of these fabled hot dogs.....

If you like stale buns that break in half as you try to shove a hot dog sausage in it, then you are missing out badly. If not, than I'd suggest you don't lose any sleep over it! ;)

I actually quite enjoyed mine on Saturday - the bun did break in half but was certainly not stale.

Certainly fine for a 5pm 50 minute snack flight.

Noticed the Lurpak butter TonyHancock ;)

Nobody in J so the CSM helped serve Y, which allowed them more time to themselves after clearing.

I think it pays to look further into why there is this declining level of service.

The Flight Attendants are like this for a reason.

From credible sources, there is a very big problem at VA particularly with the Flight Attendants regarding morale. It is apparently at an all time low, almost toxic workplace. They recently voted down a new EBA last month by a landslide.

With management cutting costs and putting in Sausage rolls into J, imagine what they're trying to do with the F/As.

They all got on onboard with the transformation from VB to VA, and its now worn thin. No one anywhere in the world agrees to do more work, for nothing extra.

If they are hiding behind a curtain to eat etc, there's a reason.

Always look to management I say. Happy Crew , Happy Passengers doesn't Branson say? Hopefully they get some change happening soon because QF are starting to make a come back I feel.

Got my first J flight for a few months tomorrow. Expectations are not very high though.
It's a dinner flight. If I get a pie or sausage roll I won't be happy...

Of course, flying DRW-SYD would be ecstatic getting a maggot bag (pie), snot block (vanilla slice) and a choccy milk in Flexi, and something full stop in Saver.

Whilst the EBA may not be agreeable at all (fair enough), I don't see why this should transform the workplace to something toxic. (Let alone the fact that to brand it 'toxic' is a massive call IMHO)

If anything, JB's game change was not only to change the face of the airline, but also change the internal discipline. That was at least one reason why supposedly people are perceiving VA not as another leisure or LCC, but as a real competitor to QF and indeed on a world stage... or so it would be.

One thing I notice with many QF crews is that although they are going through tough times (as it would seem; with how many heads on chopping blocks), they roll with the punches and try their best to do a good job. Maybe they hide the anguish better, I don't know. (And before anyone pipes up, yes I have heard reports of surly crew etc. etc.)

Doing something in your capacity without extra resources, e.g. your attitude, doesn't cost any extra money for the airline nor on your own part. Unless it was explicitly stated in your job description / contract.

I'll be more optimistic and bet you may get the fish or curry. :) Alternatively, maybe the lamb or shepherd's pot pie.

Extra money for good service!? Where have I seen that before? Oh, yeah, tips. Imagine tipping the cabin crew for wearing a smile :)
