Item-->Customs-->TRS line Brisbane international airport-->Receipt, item, original box--->hand them in--->check off--->Pay cash GST back?
That it?

Good way of buying RM Williams - just walk through with them on!

You are supposed to show the item and receipts. I was let off once claiming on a $500 North Face snow jacket which I left in my checked bag. It was a 40 degree day so I wasnt carrying or wearing it.
Must be purchased within the last 30 days too.

Neither cash nor refund to an EFTPOS card is possible. Available refund methods are cheque (which will be posted to you), EFT (to Australian bank accounts only), or credit card refund. I recommend taking your bank account number with you to TRS - if they 'refund' to a points-earning credit card, you'll generally lose points ;)

Wow five minute process, into bank account, no boxes required.....very happy $70 up.....infinity 64gb with dock....$634 ;):D

I've also heard that a credit card refund could come from an overseas merchant account in $a so a bank may pass on a currency conversion fee.

So yes bank is the best.

Yes. Customs has a contract with a global traveller refund firm to process the transactions. This firm has an Australian office but is based overseas and the refund can be processed there.

It's now several glasses of red wine ago, but ISTR a refund cheque that issued from Ireland.

My experience at SYD airport on last two trips has not been good.

In July I was in line for ~1 hour and it was then ~30 minutes before boarding and there were still ~20 people in front of me.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the SYD TRS again and this time the line went about 20-30 passengers outside into the duty free store. I have never seen the queue that long and it would have been ~80 people in line. I think even if I had 2 hours there would not have been time to be processed.

Should I write in any feedback/complaints? Is it likely to get me anywhere?

What time of the day was this? I find mid mornings to lunchtime to be very busy....I"m catching a 650pm flight on Monday. I was aiming to get to airport about T-3 hours to give sufficient time to claim the TRS back on my camera.

Both ~10:00am-10:30am flights.

Thought so...the last time I caught a flight around this time and had a TRS claim, it was touch and go whether I made the 30 minute cut off!

Brisbane was always a shocker last year. One person manning the booth for 10am flights. I think there was always an Asian flight heading out as always plenty of people with their bags lined up. Saw them turn away people within 30 mins which seems a little harsh when they've waited 45 mins in the Q. Note to self- go extremely early if claiming expensive bling.

When I got to the TRS counter at Syd at around 4 pm (Mon), I was the only customer!
