Hi all, travelling PER-ADL-SYD, with a friend meeting up with me in SYD. Am I able to go into the SYD QP once my flight lands (7.15pm), and wait in there before my friend arrives?

Shouldn't be a problem - I've done it before.

Given that it'll probably be fairly busy at that time, I'd be surprised if the attendant gives anything more than a fleeting glance at your BP or Plat card. Plenty of times I've walked into a QP and just waved my OLCI BP. For all they know it could've been anything printed on an A4 sheet of paper. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Flashware, I note that you are QP PS; this does not guarantee entry to the QP.

As Febs posted, do your 'flashing' (as it were) and look like you belong and you will probably be fine.

I also have lifetime QP, so lounge access isn't a problem.
Well the official rules state that you can only use the QP before a flight not after arrival, that is why posters are saying you could have but not guaranteed access. The exception of course are those OW Emeralds that have access anytime they want.

Yep, sorry - makes sense. After reading serfty's post again it now reads like that. I read it as just being "because you're PS doesn't mean you're guaranteed access" :)

Also.. what would I do with my suitcase? Would I need to put it in storage? (It's only going to be for an hour :S)

I don't believe T3 at SYD has a baggage storage facility; you could take it to T2 and pay $6 to leave it, then collect it later.

If it is only an hour I would simply go straight to the QP. You bag should come out downstairs and start making laps of the carousel. After a while the carousel will be stopped and uncollected bags will be gathered and taken to Qantas baggage services.

When you are finished with the QP, head down to Qantas T3 baggage services counter and collect your bag.

(Please note, when doing this, there is the very slight risk that someone may take a liking to your bags and decide to appropriate them.)

Thanks for the advice guys, I may even just ask staff in the QP in ADL on their opinion too - they're in another state, so I guess it can't have too much of a detrimental effect (eg. if they say no, at least when I do try it it'll be different state/different staff ;))

I've tried this before when arriving in SYD for an FT Do. Baggage Services rang me concerned that I hadn't picked up my bags. I told him where I was and they said it would be available when I got down there (but they advised their closing time).

He didn't sound too happy about having to babysit my bag....

Got a nice suprise on arrival to ADL (in the ADL QP now), I sent an e-mail requesting to be comp'd to Silver as I missed out by 20 SC (which I did a week later!). When I arrived, I had a voicemail advising they had put me up to PS, and even better - it's been recorded as my original date, so the 200 SC I've earned so far (since Nov 06) are counting towards my PS for next year! Thank you Qantas! :)

Flashware, congratulations on you PS.

How did it go this evening with the QP , your luggage and meeting your friend?

I hope all went well. :)

Good Stuff, I just made Gold on 31st Dec 06 (by the required SC's exactly), and Really WEALLY WEALLY hope they'll let me stay as a silver at least come next 31 Dec.

Thank you very much :) Good news, what I did... is I saw 3 guys going up to the QP in Sydney, so I followed them and just flashed my thing and kept on walking through. Couldn't have been happier. Mate came an hour later, and we went out for the night - just got home now! Awesome night! But.. thanks for the advice.

And.. if it wasn't for your guy's advice to ask Qantas to comp me up to Silver, I would never have asked! So thank you!!!! MUCH appreciated!

Oh, and just to add to that - what they did, is set my silver to be from when my actual anniversary date was - so the 200 SC i've earned since then, are credited towards requalifying! Could not be happier with Qantas, touché!

Moral of the story... don't post after a few drinks, as when you read the next morning it makes very little sense ;)
