Both the priority boarding and the wifi in the lounge work fine on VA :)

<ducks>

Funny you mention that. The WiFi in the VA BNE lounge was very fast this afternoon. :D

Don't go so easy on them... I still remember the one time the VA wifi hasn't worked for me in the last 3 years. Still haven't forgiven the useless b@stards for stuffing that up on that one particular day.

Don't bring up "The WiFi debacle of 2009" we are all still shaking. :D

I can't believe it took them over 30mins to fix it. Absolutely appalling.

QF are in the process of getting a new supplier to install a new wireless network I believe, given BNE is using 802.11b based stuff, its not before time.

In the MEL J lounge today I managed to log straight on to the wireless network.

The speed was not to bad. Although it was 5:41 AM AEST. (......and a Saturday!)

I was in the QP in T2 on Tuesday night and did an experiment - it took 23 minutes to log into the QF/Tesltra wifi and less than 2 seconds for the Optus Sponsored free wifi in the terminal.

It certainly gave a me a feeling of "Great Work Optus" and "Get your sh%t together Telstra and Qantas". As people said - how hard is it. Is it just me or should Telstra be worried about how people are perceiving their product or capabilities?

Lets hope they hop to it. It is a basic business essential these days. AA even have one on the plane for heavens sake!!!

While I think the situation is rubbish, realistically, though, basic business essentials should be provided by your employer.

Wasn't working in BNE J or Syd J Dom lounges on Friday.

The wireless networks that appeared for me was amusing... a solid 10 or so "name's iphone4 network".

On Monday it wasn't too bad in the MEL J lounge,

Sunday night in the PER QP it loaded really quicklyb (online in under a minute)! was rather surprised considering how many people were in the lounge!

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

I have given up even trying - BNE MEL CBR ADL PER are all far far slower than my 3G connection.

Presumably just something done on the cheap, maybe to leave room in the budget for the CEO Joyce's ludicrous bonus!!

Very frustrating but typical of QF (and maybe Telstra) general disregard for their loyal customers.

But I guess they have us by the balls - what is the alternative?

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

I agree - If it's overloaded, Fix it. People obviously want to use it.

The last time I used the One World lounge at LAX it took over 30mins to get an IP address. I assume the DHCP server simply ran out and was giving them out one by one as the leases expired.

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

Seriously, in this day and age, Internet access is part of everyone's life. These lounges really do need to get up with the times - surely they can negotiate with a company that offers fast, reliable, accessible at all times internet?

Is it a case of only looking at the *big* guys? Or a case of not looking past the ends of their noses to *really* see what is on offer from all suppliers?

Personally, I don't really care that they are touting their new "alliance with Optus"; if these guys (or Telstra) aren't coming up with the goods in the lounges, get another service provider to supply it! I can get great WiFi in Japan, Thailand etc and various other countries around the world (and surprise, surprise, 9/10 it's FREE!!)

Oh, I forgot "Customer Service" doesn't actually mean what it says now, does it??;)

+1

That is so totally true! Additionally, sitting in a lounge between flights is an extremely important time for me to have the net. Even when on "holidays" I want a good connection.

But the thing that has me buggered is that it is not just airline lounges that suffer this. It is a rare hotel I come across that has a decent internet service. And I also object to having to pay and get some 67 digit code to logon. It is not that I mind paying, it is the fiddly stuff-around that irks me. In this day and age I belive internet access is almost as fundamental as having hot water for the shower.

I suppose in time things will improve. I still remember in the 80's having to pay $2 each time I got on a PanAm flight for the earphones, and they were just plastic tubes that you stuck in a hole for piped music.

Certainly not "done on the cheap" back when it was set up as a paid service.

It became complimentary several years ago and with the explosion in the number hand-held wifi devices being used these days, what was adequate in 2008 is not now.

I believe QF are in the process of organising upgrades - would not surprise if was via Optus.

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

I don't even bother with the WiFi from my laptop and just go straight for my Next-G USB dongle.

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

Totally agree. In the last month I have been in the J lounges in BKK SYD MEL BNE, the QC in PER and the SYD and SIN F lounges and the connection has been useless. I asked about it in the SYD J lounge and I was advised that the capacity simply was not good enough for the demand and that it soil be fixed but of course they had no idea when. It's not good enough if you are listening red roo. In the same period I was in the LHR T5 F and T3 lounges and the Iceland air lounge in Rejiavik in and they had great WI-FI

As I have stated on more than one occasion, the wi-fi (especially in the international J and F Lounges) should be fast enough to download movies/ books to your mobile device of choice, anything less is substandard IMHO.

Re: Qantas domestic Lounges pathetic wifi

Here's an idea:

1. Apply for a status match.
2. Get it.
3. Walk over to the Virgin lounge.
4. Use the internet there.

Works every time. *

* Apart from one day in 2009 that i still cough about occasionally.
