QFF Gold to Platinum Difference Noticed

Happened to me the other day on a Darwin-Adelaide. Didn't cross my mind it wasn't a CityFlyer with free drink with lunch until I was asked for six bucks. Probably rather loudly (getting deaf in my old age) I said "You have to be joking, obviously more competition is needed on this route". When I reached into my pocket for the required shekels it was dismissed with a wave of the (limp) wrist.

It's generally only Cityflyers to/from Perth that get a complimentary alcoholic drink with lunch.

I think the reference was not to an in seat greeting but a "Hello Mr Simongr" when boarding when they read the BP rather than just a "Second aisle on the left". I get this very consistently.

This was my interpretation also. My last international flight was "Welcome back Mr *****. You must fly more than I do". Kind of ironic given as a WP I don't fly as much as most.

If that alone was what the compensation was worth...

I'm not sure I understand this??

The voucher was not because of a lack of acknowledgement... It was a series of mishaps which detracted from my experience on one particular segment.

I get the "welcome back Mr Harvyk" from time to time...

I'm not overly fussed by it, it's also very inconsistant...

That said I'd do rather like the personal greeting that FA's give after you've sat down in Y+ \ J. Especially if they have looked at the manifest prior to coming over, rather than looking at the manifest whilst standing at your seat.

I find that FA's generally greet people personally who are smiling and look like they are in a good mood more often then grumpy looking people.

My example is my Partner who often looks cranky getting on the plane, but I always smile and say hello first, generally getting a better response.

That was my ill-worded point - it would have been a lot of compensation for not getting the greeting ;)

I usually get the welcome back Mr M, and even got a personally in seat greeting just after making Platinum. Personally, I kinda preferred the old DJ first name greeting, but now they are also doing the Mr M thing. However, the specific greeting for me is a triviality, as long as they speak in a happy and cheerful way.

I got to experience a much better platinum benefit this afternoon, when I missed my flight by about 5 minutes, thanks "incident ahead" on the M5. I fronted the J lounge service desk at SYD, asked if they can help look for another flight, expecting to pay a heap of money (was booking on an E fare). Got put straight onto the next flight, no charge, no hassles and even given a choice of seats. :D

I find it very inconsistant with QANTAS.

I was not acknowledged by name, flying F, MEL-BKK the other day.

In fact, the first time my name was used, was when the pilot came down to introduce himself to the passengers in F and have a little chat as they usually do.

This flight caused me to write to QANTAS and complain about the level of service.
What is happening to Qantas' First Class offering?

Had a pretty horrible check-in experience with my father last night (MEL-HKG). There was no F queue so we lined up in J (which is fine). There was only one staff member servicing both the J & PE queues. No one was policing any of the queues so several DYKWIA looking F passengers pushed in front of us while we were standing at the front of the queue (we didn't look like F passengers I guess). When an economy check-in desk became free they were calling over PE passengers which caused more J & F passengers to push in front of us to insert themselves at the front of the PE queue.

After at least 15mins at the front of the queue we were finally checked in. The staff member at the check-in desk had the worst can't be bothered'd attitude. Did not explain to us what the express immigration card was for and not once were we addressed by name (which is what reminded me of reggie's post).

We definitely walked away with a bad taste in our mouths. I tend to believe you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to air travel. After talking up F class to my father I felt like a bit of a goose to be honest. I don't expect to have my cough kissed but when flying F I think it's reasonable to expect efficient & polite service.

Next time he goes back to HKG I'm shipping him off with Cathay.

Was the F desk closed? It is a separate area from the checkin counters.

Haha. Serious? Doh.

I did leave my father in the queue to go and look for an F specific counter. Couldn't find it. I did find a closed desk marked "special" which had a porter near by. Maybe that was it?

Add poor signage to my list of gripes I guess?

QF F Checkin at MEL is accessed primarily from the roadside. Special entrance between a few trees at the end closest to the QF Dom terminal.

The entrance for the F checkin is right out the front. You wouldn't have seen it from inside.

Yep. We entered the terminal near the virgin check-in areas so didn't see the roadside check in. I would have asked if there was actually any staff patrolling the area.

I agree, and one thing I have noticed since getting SG is that I no longer get told where my seat is the assumption being that I know where I am sitting.

Generally I do, but on my first WP flight I went and sat in 4C, the actual pax for that seat came up and was very polite saying he thought I might be in his seat. I looked at my BP and realised I was in 4D , some quick apologies and even quicker moving by myself and all was rectified.

I am generally very poor with faces and rarely remember FAs I have seen before even if they remember me. So being polite and looking at the name badge is essential and means I have a good trip,

I'm not WP, but I fly often with a colleague who is. Never seen him get the greeting, but then again we're always on peak flights in and out of CB that always have at least half a dozen CL up the front in J.

For that matter, I've noticed the CLs rarely get the in-seat greeting if there's more than one or two of them on the acft.
