Hi everyone!

Question about cancellation of a single sector classic reward MEL-HKG (haven't booked it yet).

The terms say this:

If your booking contains only Classic Flight Reward, then the following conditions apply:

  • Refunds or re-credit will not be allowed once travel has commenced, even if remaining travel is not completed.
  • Requests to cancel a Classic Flight Reward ticket (where permitted) and re-credit points may be submitted prior to the commencement of the first flight in your booking and will incur a Cancellation Refund Fee in points. Only points that would not have expired will be re-credited.
Looks like you can cancel and take a 6000pt hit right up until you check in. Is this the case?
Also, are taxes paid refunded as well or just the points? If you used points for the taxes component, would they all be refunded?

I'm waitlisting a CX J award but need to fly on that day so will pick up a Y QF/CX seat in the meantime.

If you're travelling alone yes it will be 6000 points for cancellation. it is 6000 for each passenger in the booking. yes taxes will be refunded - I am not aware that it is possible to pay for the taxes component in points.

This is 2 years old so I think something has changed.

There are no fees payable with points anymore? $77 cash now?

I am looking a a potential BNE-DXB-SAW/IST. I just want to know what I am up for if I need to change or cancel it.

It is still 5000 points to change and 6000 points to cancel an award booking.

There is the option to pay $$ (for example the $77 you mention) - but not all QF reservations agents seem to know this is an option (reported on another thread).

What is the latest you can cancel a QF international award ticket and still get the taxes and points refunded ( minus 6000 cancellation fee) ?

Any time before departure.
I've cancelled as close as two or three hours prior.

with the 5,000 change fee, does it allow route change or is it only for flight/time/name change?

Route changes are permitted; I went from MEL-xAKL-LAX to MEL-LAX for example.

You may be able to do Origin/Destination chnages (e.g. MEL-BNE to SYD-BNE) but it depends on who is doing the changes.

Here's an excerpt from the fare rules for an award flight presented when making an online booking:

Hi everyone,

Looking for advice. Holding a QF award ticket LHR/MAN/LHR on BA. Notified today that both flights are cancelled. Alternatives offered are unsuitable as I'm connecting with international flights at LHR so booked a paid tkt on BA.

Will I be penalised 6000 points to now cancel the award booking or should I just no show?

ThanksScreenshot_20200227-080051_Samsung Internet.jpg

Welcome to AFF, @vickyhdn With the flight cancellations and being rebooked 4 hours later, you will be able to get a full refund of all points and $$$ paid. If you no show, you would lose the lot.

Serfty,

Thanks for your prompt and accurate response.

Spoke to Qantas and got a full refund of the points and no cancellation penalty.

First time poster but long time reader of this very informative site 😊

Well done - many would ask how were you able to do that in such a short time?

Franky,

rang Qantas immediately and was told I'd get a refund of points and $ fee.

Unfortunately still waiting for either credit to show!

Guess I got over excited too soon!

Hi all

First-time poster and long-time lurker..

Hoping for some clarification please as Qantas have advised a call wait time of over +4hrs.

I have a classic rewards booking - 1 itinerary, 3 passengers, 3 flights - all of which need to be cancelled. Flying end-March.

Will the cancellation point fee be 6000 per passenger per itinerary OR 6000 per passenger per flight? And will I receive a full refund of the booking fee / taxes?

Thanks so much!
Matt

6000 per passenger for each (total) booking cancelled. So you'd be looking at a total of 18000 points here. Everything else will be refunded. Total booking = anything in the one booking reference, no matter how many flights.

Hey Guys.

Could I please confirm whether I can cancel (and be refunded) a Qantas Domestic Business fare purchased with points (classic reward) right up to departure, or whether I must cancel > 24 hours before my departure time to be refunded.

Looking on the Qantas website and my ticket information, I cannot find a answer for this.

Appreciate any help :)
