Hi everyone!

Question about cancellation of a single sector classic reward MEL-HKG (haven't booked it yet).

The terms say this:

If your booking contains only Classic Flight Reward, then the following conditions apply:

  • Refunds or re-credit will not be allowed once travel has commenced, even if remaining travel is not completed.
  • Requests to cancel a Classic Flight Reward ticket (where permitted) and re-credit points may be submitted prior to the commencement of the first flight in your booking and will incur a Cancellation Refund Fee in points. Only points that would not have expired will be re-credited.
Looks like you can cancel and take a 6000pt hit right up until you check in. Is this the case?
Also, are taxes paid refunded as well or just the points? If you used points for the taxes component, would they all be refunded?

I'm waitlisting a CX J award but need to fly on that day so will pick up a Y QF/CX seat in the meantime.

If you're travelling alone yes it will be 6000 points for cancellation. it is 6000 for each passenger in the booking. yes taxes will be refunded - I am not aware that it is possible to pay for the taxes component in points.

This is 2 years old so I think something has changed.

There are no fees payable with points anymore? $77 cash now?

I am looking a a potential BNE-DXB-SAW/IST. I just want to know what I am up for if I need to change or cancel it.

It is still 5000 points to change and 6000 points to cancel an award booking.

There is the option to pay $$ (for example the $77 you mention) - but not all QF reservations agents seem to know this is an option (reported on another thread).

with the 5,000 change fee, does it allow route change or is it only for flight/time/name change?

Route changes are permitted; I went from MEL-xAKL-LAX to MEL-LAX for example.

You may be able to do Origin/Destination chnages (e.g. MEL-BNE to SYD-BNE) but it depends on who is doing the changes.

Here's an excerpt from the fare rules for an award flight presented when making an online booking:

Booking Changes
Fees are not payable where you are entitled to a refund or alternative flight under the Australian Consumer Law or Conditions of Carriage.

  • ...
  • If your booking contains only Classic Flight Reward, then the following conditions apply:
  • Up to 24 hours before departure of the first flight:
  • The following changes are permitted up to 24 hours before departure of the first flight in your booking:
      • change to name (only for flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket that are operated by Qantas)
      • change to class of travel
      • change to any segment routing (including departure, stopover or destination cities) or airline
  • Up to the commencement of travel for each flight:
  • The following changes are permitted up to the commencement of travel of each flight in your booking*:
      • change of flight number
      • change to date of travel
  • provided that a change to name, class of travel or segment routing or airline is not required.
  • *Exception: If the change is requested for an airline that requires ticket reissue for changes to flight number or date of travel, changes are only permitted up to 24 hours before departure of the first flight in your booking. For further information call your local Qantas office.
  • Up to 24 hours before departure of each flight (within Australia only):
  • The following changes are permitted up to 24 hours before departure of each flight in your booking (provided your entire booking contains flight segments which are within Australia only):
      • change to class of travel
      • change to any segment routing (including departure, stopover or destination cities) or airline
  • If your booking contains any flight segment where travel is outside Australia, changes to class of travel, segment routing or airline is not permitted.

Where permitted, changes to this fare will incur a Change Fee in points and may require the payment of additional points as well as any difference in the taxes, fees and carrier charges. Changes to Classic Flight Reward bookings may be made online at qantas.com/yourbookingor via Qantas Telephone Sales (call your local Qantas office).

For all changes made over the phone through a Qantas consultant you must pay a Service Fee (applicable as at the date of the change) in addition to the Change Fee. For members in Australia and New Zealand a cash option for the Service Fee may also be available. No Service Fee is payable for changes made online.
Cancellations and Refunds
  • ...
  • If your booking contains only Classic Flight Reward, then the following conditions apply:
  • Refunds or re-credit will not be allowed once travel has commenced, even if remaining travel is not completed.
  • Requests to cancel a Classic Flight Reward ticket (where permitted) and re-credit points may be submitted prior to the commencement of the first flight in your booking and will incur a Cancellation Refund Fee in points. Only points that would not have expired will be re-credited.
  • In accordance with the US Department of Transportation rules, customers who purchase an Award ticket in the United States may cancel their booking and have their ticket refunded without incurring the Cancellation Refund Fee within 24 hours of ticketing when the ticket was purchased one week or more prior to scheduled departure of the first flight in the itinerary.

Hi everyone,

Looking for advice. Holding a QF award ticket LHR/MAN/LHR on BA. Notified today that both flights are cancelled. Alternatives offered are unsuitable as I'm connecting with international flights at LHR so booked a paid tkt on BA.

Will I be penalised 6000 points to now cancel the award booking or should I just no show?

Thanks Screenshot_20200227-080051_Samsung Internet.jpg

Welcome to AFF, @vickyhdn With the flight cancellations and being rebooked 4 hours later, you will be able to get a full refund of all points and $$$ paid. If you no show, you would lose the lot.

Well done - many would ask how were you able to do that in such a short time?

Franky,

rang Qantas immediately and was told I'd get a refund of points and $ fee.

Unfortunately still waiting for either credit to show!

Guess I got over excited too soon!

Hi all

First-time poster and long-time lurker..

Hoping for some clarification please as Qantas have advised a call wait time of over +4hrs.

I have a classic rewards booking - 1 itinerary, 3 passengers, 3 flights - all of which need to be cancelled. Flying end-March.

Will the cancellation point fee be 6000 per passenger per itinerary OR 6000 per passenger per flight? And will I receive a full refund of the booking fee / taxes?

Thanks so much!

6000 per passenger for each (total) booking cancelled. So you'd be looking at a total of 18000 points here. Everything else will be refunded. Total booking = anything in the one booking reference, no matter how many flights.

Hey Guys.

Could I please confirm whether I can cancel (and be refunded) a Qantas Domestic Business fare purchased with points (classic reward) right up to departure, or whether I must cancel > 24 hours before my departure time to be refunded.

Looking on the Qantas website and my ticket information, I cannot find a answer for this.

Appreciate any help :)
