Anyone know what the check in times are for QF8? How early do you need to be at the airport for this service?

I would imagine the 'standard' 2 hours prior would apply.

Could cut it finer if you are in J or F, but security is usually the rate-determining step and that's a wild card. DFW not too bad in my experience.

Check-in will probably open earlier than 2 hours, esp again if you are in F or J or WP.

Sorry I should say on the BNE-SYD leg :) so if hopping on this one down to Sydney.

International checkin cutoffs still apply. Most suggest ~2hrs, min 1hr (which is cutting it fine - security/immigration can be slow in BNE).

So do we think its worth choosing this service to get on the 744 over a 73H

Definitely not unless you are really keen to fly a jumbo. The service is often delayed out of the USA and I have flown it twice and waited over an hour for my bags both times. Stick to the domestic birds unless you have a lot of time to kill.

Check in is open between 3 hrs - 60 mins prior to departure for Qantas operated services at non-Australian airports. However remember to allow sufficient time to clear customs and immigration.

Also can be good for an international connection in SYD (no terminal change).

The OP was enquiring about the BNE-SYD leg only.;)

And whatever you do, never fly BNE-SYD on QF 8 if you are connecting to an outgoing international flight in SYD !! Just not worth the risk of missing the connection, given how often this flight is delayed ex BNE. (Some staff refer to it as "QF Late").

I disagree, but would say don't leave a tight connection in SYD. Leave time to be re-routed via a domestic flight.

Why? I've done it with no problems. Like with any connection it should be fine if you leave enough time.

As far as connections go - especially right at the start of a trip - I'm totally risk-averse. If going via SYD, have been known to fly down the night before. (Plus I don't want to lose time in the F Lounge!)

Hiya

Last year they opened check in around 5pm I stay at the Grand Hyatt in terminal 5 and as I come and go for a few days shopping in Dallas, I keep an eye out on the Qantas check in counters. No need to rush, I dont know about this year but last year and the year before Qantas was the only flight out of there so its quite relaxed. Nothing like the hustle and bustle of JFK or LAX.

I know for a fact they close checkin at 9pm. The reason I know this, I was at the airport waiting for my husband who was coming in on a AA domestic flight and his suitcases ended up in Terminal A he was in Terminal D and there was a little bit of nail biting as he had to make his way back to Terminal A from D to retrieve his suitcases, lol.

I recommend you check in as late as possible you only sit around in the lounge which is nothing spectacular and can get quite congested.

Next time get your husband to check the bags through so he won't even see the bags in DFW.

AA will happily do this, even on separate itineraries :)
