QF7 from SYD- DFW is delayed by almost 10 hours. I’m in Dallas waiting to take QF8 to SYD and it’s delayed by at least 2 hours. This whole mess with flights cancelled out of LAX is having a wider impact. They have one A380 out of service for refurbishment and then some mechanical issues on another aircraft so this leaves them stretched across 787 and A380 flights to and from the USA.

There's 3 A380s out at the moment. OQB is at AUH for heavy maintenance, OQK is at DRS for refurb and OQL is broken at LHR. It's actually got nothing to do with LAX.

I think OQA was out at LAX in the last week or so?

Well today’s QF7 SYD-DFW delay definitely impacted me today, lucky I had a day to spare at the start of the trip. Huge delays during to deal QF last night.

Joyce seems to be running his airline pretty tightly - one mechanical or whatever and delays mount up.
Is QF just as bad as the others or are we starting to get a bad rap?

Think they've just had a run of A380 issues and weather in SYD didn't help today. And not been able to get back to square.

The two in maintenance would have been planned into schedules, and the layover at LAX normally allow them to catch up.

Confluence of issues.

Flying on QF8 tomorrow, it’s already delayed 2hrs (which is annoying as flagship lounge closes at 10) had put a J->F upgrade request 3 months ago, which I think is unlikely as only just turned gold today and haven’t heard anything!

Last week, AA staff in the flagship lounge said it would close at 10pm. But I asked the Qantas staff in the lounge and they confirmed it would stay open until boarding - which it did.

Ah, brilliant, they have also changed my connections to be Syd-Mel-HBA instead of direct, which if they apply the DSC (not sure they will for the changed flights) will give me platinum for the first time! I’m assuming I still need to stay in the airport as per normal as though it were leaving on time? They have also just confirmed my upgrade J (booked I) to F!

Yes, DSC will apply for the involuntary reroute.

So we ended up wheels up at about 1am, flagship stayed open till 11:15 (and very nice it was too) was a good trip over in F although we had 3 separate under 3’s in the F cabin who weren’t enjoying it as much!! Now made my Sydney to Melbourne connection (in 65mins from wheels down to boarding) which is delayed on the tarmac so will prob have about 10mins at MEL for my Hobart connection! Been an eventful trip home!

Were these children sitting by themselves for takeoff / landing?

Honestly wasn’t paying enough attention to know.... 2 toddlers had their own seats (not sure if they were in them) pretty sure one ~18mth old didn’t
