I was checking my upcoming bookings and noticed that my up coming flight to Singapore from Sydney was cancelled QF5. Instead domestic economy to BNE and PE to SIN on QF52. No calls or notification, so I called CS. Was informed that Qantas was taking the 747 off that route and replacing it with the smaller airbus A330. BNE still keeps its 747 on the QF52 route with PE, hence the re route. I was also informed that my booking had not been ticketed even tho it was booked in PE some months ago, and, I had 2 choices, fly via BNE, go back to economy and get a refund on the amount difference.

I was keen to stay on the same flight as it suited my time commitments. I ended up upgrading with the Companion business sale, but even then noted that Qantas does seem to be reducing capacity and value added products from its international service. I also noted that the Business class seat on the A330 is not lie flat either.

I would have thought that qantas would want to remain competitive on the SYD SIN value added product market with Singapore Airlines, It seems they have given up.....

Such a shame...

The above has already been discussed in other threads. It's temporary and BKK gets a 747 upgrade over the time.

Why not move to SQ?

Yes it has been discussed but still a shame that SYD has lost a 747 to/from SIN even if it is for a short time.

Chances are QF5 wouldn't have been lie flat either. Not all the 747's were upgraded only the 6 ER's and OJS, OJT and OJU were done, the rest of the fleet kept skybed MK1's. Just looked at a list of A/C that have operated QF5 and most days it is a 747 it was using the older a/c.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I just got an email from QF advising that QF6 in October will be operated by an A333 instead of a 747. I had selected seat 1A in the First class cabin (sold as J). Now I'm on a coughpy MKI thingy...:(

I just got my notification too. Gone from PE on a B747 to Y on an A330. Not happy. Have to sort out what to do about it now. I don't really want to pay extra for a those awful Mk I skybeds but I really don't want to be in Y either. I'm so annoyed with QF right now...

I got my notice too. I knew it was coming, so that softened it a bit, but I was looking forward to a final trip in the old 747 first class cabin. Now I'll have to fire up for the Mk I slippery dip seat!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have no issues of the sort.
TA booked Y for me from MEL-SIN return next week on a sale fare . No suprises for me.
Unless of course I go from Y to J on my first op up from QF.
Leslie seemed to ignore me yesterday when mentioning this.......!!!

SYDSYD QF5 14SEP & NRTSYD QF22 20SEP - both allowed me to choose old F cabin with J ticket. Let's hope they don't swap a/c any sooner than these dates - those for October services appear to have had the proverbial pulled from beneath their feet. MkI sucks. Old F is great.
