Just announced and effective tomorrow (funny that, after the sale fares finish...):

The surcharge, which remains under review, will be lowered to A$95 from A$160 for one way flights to the U.K. and Europe from Australia, and to A$85 from A$130 for flights to North and South America, South Africa and India. Flights to Asia Pacific destinations, including Hawaii, will be charged A$55, down from A$95, and trips to New Zealand will attract a A$30 surcharge, down from A$55.

Fantastic news!

Perhaps the time is right to book that QF Oneworld RTW award for August/September 2009. Would be interesting to see the difference in taxes and surcharges as last time I looked at them they were >$800.

Qantas Int Fuel Surcharge Decrease Ann Today - Does it Come off QFF Flights As Well

Qantas today announced they are decreasing their Fuel Surcharge on all Flights booked as of tomorrow.

My question is, will this come off all QFF Flights booked from tomorrow as well?

not sure what you are referring to, they announced fuel surcharge reductions on international routes, remember there are none in place on domestic flights.

It should happen at the same time that the surcharge is changed.
The cost of the FF booking takes the various componants of the fare and adds them together. I understand the code for fuel surcharge is YQ on the ticket,so whatever that level is will be added to the other charges tike passenger movement (sound like Mac bank surcharge for using the airport) etc to give a dollar cost ontop of points required

I suspect the fuel fines will reduce on award flights at the same time and I'm going to be slightly miffed when they do.
I booked 3 round trip award tickets to Japan on Saturday with the +++ totalling just under $1,100.

If there is availability, you could cancel and rebook for a cost of 2500 per person

Just wondering, can you get the ticket "reissued" without changing any segments, instead of cancellations first? Just in case when you cancel QF somehow take those seats away?

I think I'll do a dummy booking with the same itinerary later this week and see what the difference in +++ is. If it's substantial, I'll consider re-booking.

At the moment it's $366.44 for ADL-ASP-CNS-NRT// KIX-OOL

The decreases from Australia aren't too bad:

One way from Australia ($A)
* UK and Europe - $95 (was $160)
* Mainland USA, Canada, South America, South Africa and India - $85 (was $130)
* Asia, Pacific, Honolulu - $55 (was $95)
* New Zealand - $30 (was $55)

Not sure that > $130 is worth a re-issue and potential change fees on a paid ticket, but probably is on an award ticket.

This is sensible, I'm going to suggest my sister do this for her family (2A+1CH+1 INF) if there's availability. In her case at $80 per pax saving (to/from Asia), 2500:$80 is probably a decent ratio.

But if there's not at the very least ...I wonder if there's a penalty for cancelling the infant's ticket ("to stay with the grandparents" of course) and rebooking it when she realises the grandparents are not available.;) That would claw back one lot of $80!

The Cancellation/Refund fee is 5000 QFF points per PAX.

What if one was to add a connecting sector at the end of the trip? That would require ticket reissue but would only be a "change" not a cancellation, therefore only require 2500 pts charge, plus minimal risk of losing seats (eg convert a SYD-LHR-SYD award into a SYD-LHR-SYD-MEL award ith no stopover in SYD on the way back ) and just be a no-show (tell them of course) on the SYD-MEL leg ...

It's reflecting on the web site sale prices:
MEL r/t to:
  • LAX: 960
  • SFO: 993
  • JFK: 1360
SYD r/t to:
  • LAX: 971
  • SFO: 973
  • JFK: 1363
