their current booking confirms row 4 so the scheduled aircraft is the old 4 class beast
Yeah - but it is 7 months away.

In early November I have a booking on QF107 and originally I had selected 4A with the extra work space. There was a change to the new configuration 2 months ago and that seat "disappeared". I now have 5J.

Recently booked a JASA SYD-JNB-SYD for mid next year (whether I use it is another question altogether) and there is an F cabin available for seat selection at the moment (2A selected each way). Obviously this may change, but would be nice if it holds.

Finish of QF First class to South Africa

I am a bit disappointed my hard earned points and subsequent 1st class booking to Sth Africa next year has been downgraded to business(points difference to be refunded). QF is finishing with 1st class after October this year. It was supposed to be a special treat for the other half with FL experience to kick start the trip. Maybe better luck next time and I understand that Qantas does have to start making a profit internationally at some stage. Hopefully will try again in another couple of years to another destination.

Re: Finish of QF First class to South Africa

My condolences to you about the downgrade.

Mrs Flying Fox & I did exactly this flight. It was probably one of the best that I have ever had.

Good luck with your next F adventure!

If you're not platinum, write to QFF and ask for FL access before the flight. It can't hurt to ask.

Maybe also check the seat map because they might continue to use 4 class birds for a while (so you can still get a F seat, may have to ask to be put up there). I was also intending to fly the route in F early next year and was hopeful the eventual withdrawal would have had a lot longer notice.

I asked the friendly staff this morning but no luck with lounge access. Seat bookings remain the same at 1A,K over and back.

Not happy
That's my only regular route that still has 1st. On top of that it's a peach of a flight as you have 14 daylight hours to enjoy the service.
That said, I was on it a couple of weeks ago and from the chat in the cabin most were on an upgrade (there were 4 of in my party and we were all upgraded on the way out and the way back) so I can see the QF point of view

Received about 160k points back per ticket refund from full FASA paid taxes with points

Thats a great deal to have same 4class seating in row 2 all without the Tattinger and some slightly better food
happy at this end

I am flying in J on QF 64 JNB -SYD in November and the seat selection would appear to be an old first layout still...as per the attached seat map it is leting me select a seat up front...at this stage I have chosen 4F as I am not sure if 1K is a single seat or 2 abreast.

Any ideas?

Thanks serfty...I suppose the question is: for the time being on the SYD - JNB run is the upfront seating layout going to be an old F seat layout with J service?

have done this route and I it is the old F seats at J pricing.

Yes 1k is a single and the seats will be far better in J in the front end (as per 14 seat map) as you will get Skybed Mark1 sloping seats in orginal J class

Not necessarily moving forward, already three class birds (old skybed) have been seen on this route this month and will be more prevalent as the 4 class retire over the next few months.

No one will really know till day of departure, but a win if the old bird with old F seats flys you

If WP just make sure you get the F treatment before boarding,as you are right, 14 hours flying west makes for a fun trip!!

Nice long sunset........

Flying on the 2nd october, looks like no f. This is cough, even though the QF 747 f is cough it was better than the old J seats. I think i'll be collecting my points through emirates soon, no point now with Qantas

Just checked, once Emirates fly from Adelaide to Johannesburg, Emirates cost is $7800 J, Qantas $9000. Pretty easy choice considering connections are also quite good

The issue is the flight time...SYD -JNB direct on QF is about 14 Hours, (11+ on the way back) even adding on the QF ADL -SYD connection the EK flight would be way longer as Dubai is a long way north.

ADL/JNB non-stop? That'd be quite a boon!

Otherwise, you can always put up with swinging by DXB, if you're in the pointed end.
