I have read all 325 pages of this thread and tried searching to no avail.

Can someone please explain the QR married segment policy.

I am hoping to book award flights Syd - DOH -IST
And return ATH - DOH -SYD

Depending on availability will consider
flying in/out of MEL or ADL instead, but what is most important is getting that 13 -14 hour flight in J.

I am not sure whether I will have enough points for a full 280k award (x2)

My intention is to book the DOH / AUS return as soon as I can and then add the other flights if I can accrue the points - was thinking of booking the flights to IST on RJ to satisfy the two ow carriers rule but returning from Athens QR is the only option. Will I be able to do this - it looks like I may end up with a long layover of 20hours in DOH

Also hoping to not return to my city of origin in order to make a SYD-PER trip (will fly from CBR if possible)

So can anyone confirm if my scenario is plausible?

Ie Book the AUS to DOH first and then add on segments to IST and return from ATH at a later date presuming availability ( in this case AUS is short for Australia because I am happy to fly out of SYD, MEL or ADL)
I am also willing to pay revenue fares on the shorter legs if I don’t have the points balance.

Married segments can work for and against.

An airline might be willing to sell D class for both AAA to BBB and BBB-CCC. However, they may not want to sell any seats AAA-CCC in D class, even with a connection at BBB. So, while a search may show D class available for both AAA-BBB and BBB-CCC a search for AAA-CCC will show no availability via BBB.

Conversely an airline might be willing to sell AAA-CCC in D class, even if there is a connection at BBB. So, a search for AAA will show D class for AAA-BBB-CCC. However, they may not want to sell D class for AAA to BBB and/or BBB-CCC so searching these individually may not show availability.
