Thus is probably a bit OT for this thread, but as it happened on this ride, I’ll relate it here.
In LHR, I saw this woman with an incredibly bruised face in the QF10 throng. I thought she looked like Germaine Greer, but wasn’t sure as she looked very badly beaten-up.
Anyway, I spotted her name on a BP and when we get to PER, she’s already in the DOM J Lounge (wheelchaired pax).
I plonk myself down near her and say: “Did someone take exception to something you wrote?!” (I have no shame...).
The flat response: “They always do.”
Hmmm, I’ve hung around academics half my life. Me thinks: ‘Uh-oh, here we go again - devoid of a sense of humour, linear thinking, boring and a degree of conceit by the (ahem, elderly) Prof
.’ Errr, d’oh, OK lady, you didn’t quite get it did you?...
Me: “That’s why I said it.” Thinking: ‘OK, so this probably means she wasn’t beaten up by a gang of neocons...’
Still blank.
I then received a detailed description of how she has fallen down the stairs and banged her head and face on the large antique doorknob, only 36 hours before flying. It seems she just carried on and got to the airport - at which point the staff sent her off for a medical assessment.
Do I dare say a person who knows how to talk but not how to listen...
.
Didn’t make my day, but did contribute.
