Does anyone know the configuration for QF175 and QF25 from Brisbane to Los Angeles on Sun 4th Sept? I had heard that some of the flights had the first class section, even though currently sold as business class.

On those dates:

QF175 - 2 class (skybed)
QF25 - 3 class sold as two

Of course it's still subject to changes.

I am flying QF175 on 3rd october and QF176 (LAX-BNE) 14th october. Will these both be 2 class? I have downloaded the seat config and am trying to work out the best seat for my new bride and I (we are going on honeymoon). I am QFF Gold, but traveling on the AA flight number (as it was $1000/ticket cheaper), will I still get the benifits as far as picking seats? Also, is it worth ringing Qantas and letting them know we are on honeymoon in advance to try and get any special treatment? Any particular department?

QF175 is normally 2 class service (with SkyBeds), rather than the 3 class sold as two (as there are very few of those planes left in QF's fleet).

If it is on AA ticket stock (green boarding pass e-ticket confirmations) or QF ticket stock??

If AA ticket, then ring AA.on 1300 650 747 - ask to speak to Sandra or Kristy (receptionist) and get them to put in your QFF numbers into the booking. They will also do seat allocation for you. I met them last week at the AA North Sydney office when ticketing my AA tickets. Tell them it's your honeymoon and they will note your booking.

If QF ticket, ring QF on 13 11 31 and ask them to pre-assign seats (making sure your QFF numbers are in the booking).

But because you are travelling on the code-share flight number, you can't use your QF points for upgrades. You'll be relying on QF Yield Management seeing the note in your booking about your honeymoon and there being seats in J.

Thanks for all the information Lindsay!

I have been issued a e-ticket, as we are flying on AA flight numbers all the way to Jamaica (BNE-LAX-MIA-MBJ-return). I dont know if it is issued by AA or QF. It is a Q class ticket for flight AA7295 (operated by Qantas). I have also noticed that the first leg (BNE-LAX and return) of the booking appears in "my bookings" at qantas.com.au.

Sequel, you and I need to talk....Mrs LW and I are flying to the same destination as you (MBJ), but in December...albeit we're flying BNE QF LAX AA DFW AA MIA AA MBJ. We're looking to stay at Couples Negril for a week.

Yes, if it appears when you are signed into QFF account, then your QFF number is in the booking. But what kind of e-ticket did you get (from your TA) is now superfluous. Read below very carefully...

You do realise that that your flights (if on AA in Q class, irrespective of who issued the ticket) don't give you any status credits or mileage if credited to your QFF account, don't you??? Check the SC and Mileage crediting for partner airlines table. Q class under the AA part of the table is not shown, thus zero. So all that flying for nothing (other than being able the QC/AA lounges in BNE, LAX and MIA)

Whereas you could do an AA Platinum Challenge (both you and your partner) and achieve AA Plat status (and have it until 28 February 2007)?? Q class earns 50% on AA flight numbers. Luckily, you aren't booked in O class, otherwise you'd be sweet out of luck in both programs.

I would be straight away:

1. Ringing AA Res SYD on the number above and taking out any QFF numbers in the booking
2. Log onto AA.com and joining as a new member (print out a copy of your temporary card)
3. Ringing AA Res back and insert both your AA FF numbers in the booking
4. Ring AA Platinum Desk on 0011 1 800 843 3000 (yes, you should ring USA, I don't trust AA SYD to be able to do it, they are clueless when it comes to the AA Plat Challenge) and ask them to put you both on the AA Platinum Challenge on 1st October.

Would it interest you, that by the time you reach BNE(yes, the end of the last flight), you're both AA Platinum (yes, the end of the last flight, I kid you not!!!) That's equivalent to QF Gold. Try doing that on QF!!

If you need help, PM me. We're both in BNE

WOW!

Thanks for that Lindsay, lucky I asked the question. I will get on with that straight away, and let you know how I go.

I saw the Q under Qantas discount econ and didn't think anything of it, and the AA flights are N so I just figured normal credits, half points for the trip, which is ok as I have lots of points, and was just chasing status (SG til Aug 06, but change of work will see me strugtle to keep it after that, so an extra 6 months without trying must be good).

You are going on your honeymoon (know the feeling, yesterday was 2nd wedding anniversary, today's my 38th birthday) - what a better way to earn points + status (oh, and brownie points) + AC/QP access for you both until 28 Feb 07.

I'll calculate how many AA FF points and Q-points you earn. Very nice double bonus on the first flight too...

Happy Birthday, you old sod :p .

Happy birthday Lindsay!

Looks like my AA/Q BNE-LAX-BNE and AA/N LAX-MIA-MBJ rtn only get 0.5 points per mile, but that will still get AA Plat by the time we return with the challenge (approx 24k miles/12k q-points?). And I can still use my SG to access the longes.

Yeah, sorry, very early morning this morning and I forgot to click through to the Elite Qualifying page from the AA earning page....

See my PM.

Bit early to be under-the-weather ... even for a birthday boy :p . We'll let you off this time - just don't let it happen again (until next birthday at least).

Well I am all signed up for the AA Plat Challenge (had to wake up early especially in order to phone the states!).

Tried phoning 1800 843 3000 last night and they said I had to phone 1800 421 0600. Phoned the new number this morning and had no problems, signed both myself and the soon to be Mrs Sequel up as of today (as I have a domestic flight this weekend).

After signing both of us up for the Plat Chlg, I asked if I could also sign up for the gold at the same time (for the extra 25% miles on the return trip before we get Plat), but was told you can only do one or the other. Any theories? Also, I am thinking of leaving my QF SG number (rather than AA nobody) on the booking until I check-in, in order to maximise the chance of an op-up (I know, not much chance on a discount, code share ticket with a half empty plane, but it is my honeymoon, and I am allowed to dream!), any thoughts on that, or am I risking the Plat Chlg when they stuff up and dont change the number before I fly?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sequel, yes yuo can do both, but it is fraught with danger. Doing a Gold Challenge first will only get you an additional 700 FF points on the sector MBJ/MIA. I ran through this with another more knowledgeable person on the AA Plat Challenge. The risk of doing both on the one set of flights is the risk that the Plat Challenge won't automatically kick in after the Gold Challenge and then you have no recourse.

Again, you are risking the smooth working of the AA Plat Challenge if the CSA doesn't change it correctly (both on the BNE/LAX sector as well as for the rest of the sectors). Way too many chances for things to go REALLY pear shaped and your Challenge is ruined. If for example, the QF number stays in the booking and the flight(s) are credited to QF, try getting AA to re-credit the points to your AA FF number will be worth more angst.

You can use the benefits of your QF Gold card for access to Business Class check-in line and QC/AC access, but that should be the extent of it's benefits.

Step 1. Get your seats preallocated with your QF SG number attached.
Step 2. Well before you leave, replace your QF FF numbers with your AA numbers. (You should retain the original seating.)

BTW, if you are already an SG, the Plat Challenge gets you no real additional benefit other than being an AA elite and perhaps some better award redemption rates. SG and AA Plt are both oneWORLD Sapphire levels. Certainly for your betrothed, it's a good idea.

As Linsay (thankfully) pointed out, as it is AA Q class ticket, my FF SG would earn no status or miles, so at least with AAdvtg I get some miles, and if I dont retain SG in August next year, then the AA Plat will atleast last until Feb 07.

What I meant was, save your Plat Challenge for another time; AFAIK, You may only do a Plat Challenge once. Certainly, get your AA points, but, for example, If the opportunity arises to do it in August next year and you do not look like retaining SG you would have it until Feb 08!
