QC's plummetting standards

However I must add my voice to the limited and boring standard of food refreshments available. For the cost of membership, surely QC can provide more than party finger food and chicken soup. Suggest have a look at what Golden Wing used to offer. A real range of hot/cold food including quiches, fresh salads and pastas, and an Asian dish.

Could not agree more golden wing had an excellent selection food wise. Golden wing was far better than QC even comparing their standards back then to todays QC standards.

I was in the Singapore 1st Class lounge last night. So were Mr & Mrs Whoever and their four kids under 5. Totally out of control to the point where I complained (very nicely) to the staff only to be told that I wasn't the first one to complain. Ended up going to the Business Class Lounge for some peace & quiet.

It seems they were travelling to Frankfurt and I pity anyone who was on that flight!

I've raised two girls and now have two grand-daughters. If any of my off-spring behaved the way this lot was, they'd be unable to sit all the way to Frankfurt!

Assuming that not all 6 of them were flying First Class, Qantas should have enforced the "1 guest" policy - therefore even if both parents were Platinum, only 2 kids would be allowed in

In saying that, some 'shabby dressed' people are loud and obnoxious also.

For me it's all down to behaviour. Bad behaviour comes from those dressed in both styles, however this thread originally made the assumption that the 'shabby' dressers were the trouble makers, hence us shabby people getting somewhat defensive.

The OP didn't make any assumptions regarding the trouble-makers, but rather observations. They were poorly dressed and acting in a loud and unacceptable manner (in the OP's opinion). The obvious question is would the OP have posted if the group were well dressed?

The clothes do not maketh the man, but his actions certainly do. As I understand it, the QP is meant to be a 'refuge' of sorts, so surely one shouldn't have to resort to prodding the QP manager to maintain a certain "ambience"?

Standards in QPs and GW's during the 90's were very similar; after all they were competing for the same market.

In the immediate few years after the GW's closed, with no real competition QP standards deteriorated substantially. The last 2-3 years has seen a marked impovement from those nadir times, but still, the current QP standards are not even close to the levels of the 90's.

I don't care what type of clothes people wear - but whatever they wear it should be clean and of good repair.

Just last week in Cairns QC there was this guy who fully looked like a bum off the street. I think he was stoned too, was giving the bartender a hard time when he wanted a wine and she kept telling him where the wine was.

Anyway, I travel for leisure frequenty from Darwin - and it's not uncommon for me to travel in board shorts, a t-shirt and sandals (though fairly new and clean). And to be fair you can get in to just about any night club up here wearing that.

I would think it would be a good idea for Qantas to create different lounges within the one lounge - one focussing on business customers and one on leisure.

There is such a thing as neat casual, and even if I'm travelling long haul I try to dress neatly. I reckon JSB's are for the beach. What really p*ssed me off last Friday in the MEL QP was that I deliberately sat in the mobile phone free area of the lounge to do some work. This cretin near me had a mobile that rang. He had the thing turned up so loud it could be heard in ADL when it went off. Now, I'm not a prude, but its ring tone was a woman in the throes of cough - similar to When Harry met Sally. OK - so I haven't got a huge problem with that, but you would think that he would go somewhere wher he could talk and not disturb people, wouldn't you? Not for this phone wanker (PW) - he walks up and down talking loudly on the phone so that wherever the call was coming from he didn't really need a phone. My response was to get the sign that said mobile free area and put it right in front of him - not wanting to interrupt his call. When the PW has finished he came up to me and loudly abused me for being so rude while he was on the phone. What a Count!! My response was to imply that:

(a) he had no manners
(b) he had no education in that he couldn't read or understand symbolic communication
(c) he had no brains
(d) he was uncouth and a lout

His response was to threaten me, so I complained to one of the lounge enchiladas, who promptly ejected the PW - should have canceled his membership

Ejected him, wow that's pretty full on, haven't seen that before :!: Friday nights MEL & SYD tend to be a bit rowdy but I guess that's understandable. The rest of the time I haven't encountered anything too bad in QC, especially the international lounges. Given that these lounges are both so big now I don't know why they don't have some walled or screened off areas to control some noise and allow those who want a bit of quiet to have it, make them far away from the bar. Bad planning, bad architecture, don't care?

Well done. He got what he deserved and probably should have had his membership cancelled.

Maybe he was a guest of an (emberked) member; surely a QP member would not behave so ...

serfty,

I hope you didn't run out of words here when you thought about some of the people you know from this forum :!: :?:

Many people who have high ranking membership may be on their way to or back from vacation, hence the shorts, t-shirt etc. The line should be drawn at bare feet and singlets - they do at the movies! Thongs (those for feet, I mean) are fashionable at the moment, so it would be difficult banning this. It's the behaviour that gets to most people. It is supposed to be a quietish place. There are restrictions about mobile phone use in this many lounges for this very reason.

What really annoys me, besides louts and adults acting like they have never experienced a decent place before, are those who bring in their screaming, running, protesting children. I was of the understanding that a QC member (or any other club for that matter) could bring in one guest. Does this have an age limit e.g. above the age of 12, and younger than that are free? Not everyone is in the mood for their cute little darlings, and joining the club is the primary reasone for getting away from this type of behaviour.

All clubs that charge a joining fee should make this very clear. I waited for a plane in the general lounge recently, and I noticed how much more well behaved and considerate the people were there than in the club! Mmmm - it seems the club is where the brats are.

G'dat jabucat, welcome to AFF. :D

With respect to Qantas Club entry, members are permiited to have more than one guest if the guests are of the member's immediate family (i.e. Partner & children). Qantas do not publish this information in a freely available manner.

There are a few posts in relation to this on this website.
