Evening All,

It would appear that QantasLink intends to open a new regional lounge in August 2010 at Emerald Airport, in Queensland's Central Highlands.

Terminal Upgrade Progress May 2010

Stage 1 of the alterations and additions to the Emerald Airport Terminal are now complete. The new check in counts, airline offices, pilot crew room and baggage conveyor system are now in operation.

Work on Stage 2 started in April. These works will include construction of a new departure lounge, Qantas Club lounge and additional toilet facilities. These works are anticpated to be completed and in use during August 2010.
Apologies if this has been reported prior..

QantasLink recently opened a regional lounge in Coffs Harbour and undertook a large refurbishment program for its existing lounges in ports such as Kalgoorlie, Broome, Rockhampton and Karratha.

Would certainly be nice to see lounges in ports such as Mount Isa, Uluru/Ayers Rock (re-introduction of the Qantas Club) and Gladstone.

Cheers

Reflective -wear mandatory??

It must be the smallest QP as Emerald is a small terminal:confused:

Dont expect to see a lounge at Gladstone anytime soon as there is no provision for one in the redevelopment, QF has no need to expand facilities when there is no competition or potential for FIFO charters, at Emerald they can use it as a carrot for FIFO ops, it appears to be like the MKY lounge in size without the loo.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The Emerald terminal is being expanded quite significantly. I was there on Monday and there are 5 (I think) new, large, "proper" checkin counters complete with baggage belts. Seems like a massive overkill!

I'll be in again tomorrow so will have a bit of a search for where this QP is going.

Try opposite the toilets to the left of the checkin, that is where the plan indicates it is.

Perhaps the Qantas Boffins might like to consider a lounge in Williamtown (NTL) due to the 500000+ PAX PA.

Heard on the grapevine from QF staff last week that QF management had been offered an upstairs section of the new Terminal (above checkin) for a Club (they used to have a little room that was Qantas Club before the expansion) however due to most flights being SH*TSTAR they knocked it back as only Sunstate DASH NTL-BNE is operating plus OT (Codeshare)

Anyone else out there use NTL ?

Interesting how this will tie in with Kev747's new mining profits tax - bad timing again??

Appears it must be in the 'yet to be built' part, nothing here as yet.

Yes me!!
A QP is long overdue at NTL.
Bring it on

Details on Central Highlands Regional Council site but QP (I think) scales at roughly 6x8 metres.

Poor dears also will be enjoying paid parking ...in Emerald????

Work has started:

Work Commences On Qantas Regional Lounge In Emerald 08 July 2010

QantasLink this week started construction on a new Regional Lounge at Emerald Airport.

QantasLink Executive Manager, Mr Narendra Kumar, said the new premium lounge would be the airline’s first Regional Lounge in Queensland to be built in a contemporary new style and design.

“QantasLink services 22 destinations across Queensland but it was not a difficult decision for us to select Emerald as the first Queensland location to build a new Regional Lounge,” he said.

“Emerald is an important Central Queensland market for QantasLink with growth in population an industry. We are playing our part by delivering state-of-the-art facilities to cater for increased passenger traffic.

“I would also like to pay particular thanks to the Central Highlands Regional Council who have been instrumental in ensuring the new lounge will become a reality.”

Central Highlands Regional Council General Manager, Commercial Services, Mr Col Dziewicki, said the Council was very pleased to see the new facility taking shape. ”This is a great new facility for the new terminal, and I am delighted, on behalf of the Council, to say that we are looking forward to
seeing the new lounge up and running,” he said.

Mr Kumar said the lounge will reflect the same style as Qantas Regional Lounges throughout Australia and will offer Qantas Club members and Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers a range of services including:

complimentary wireless internet;
high definition plasma television; and
a selection of premium refreshments including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The lounge will provide comfortable table seating for about 35 people in a combined indoor and outdoor area of over 92m2.

The new Emerald Regional Lounge is due to be completed towards the end of the year and will join lounges already in operation in Broome, Coffs Harbour, Devonport, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Launceston, Mackay, Port Hedland, Rockhampton and Townsville.

QantasLink has been flying to Emerald since 1987 and currently operates 27 weekly return services from Brisbane, including 25 operated by the airline’s new 74-seat Q400 aircraft.

Bump, the lounge has finally started work and looks like it may even get completed one day.

Last Thursday I literally "stumbled" across the Qantas Regional Lounge at Emerald - its right next to the first check in counter on the left and you have to be buzzed in - unlike the lounge in Rockhampton where anyone and everyone tends to walk in. Surpringly there is no toilet. Dont expect a massive lounge - probably 20 chairs/tables (including laptop benchtops and cushioned stools) but unlike Rocky they have an outside area for about 10 pax and natural light. So it is small granted, but feels cozy and has the standard chips/cakes/grog - (after midday)/coffee and soft drinks. Good range of mags/newspapers but again no toilet. Didnt get a chance to check out if there is wi-fi but Im assuming there would be (as with the other lounges). Out of interest I had to book a last minute flight from Brisbane - and it cost our company $1267 Return from BNE-EMD. When you're the only carrier flying there you can charge premuim prices...... interesting to note their red-e deals are also quite high at around $245 one way... BUT! Come January 16 when Virgin commence flying ($88 introductory price) to Emerald lets watch the prices plummet then. his is a familiar scenario as that was the case at Port Macquarie when QF had the monopoly and charged accordingly until Virgin arrived and made the prices more fairer and a realistic propostion. Gotta love competition!

But also remember that Virgin left a few routes after everyone stuck with Qantas. Those people now have the prices they deserve.

Williamtown does over a million pax movements with Jetstar, Qantaslink, Virgin, REX and Brindabella airlines, still no Q club in sight - sigh
