Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

I’m waitlisted for QF2 from LHR on July 16 but looks full the whole way. But 4 F seats show on QF82, which leaves Sin not too long after Q2 on July 17. Would they shift me to QF82 if F still available at the time? Anyone tried this as airport upgrade?
Do contracted staff at outposts have the same authority when a flight is under airport control? I’m doubtful whether paid upgrades would be a justified reason for a routing change - in my experience I’ve only been moved on account of delays/cancellations.

i would be interested in feedback on this; as a regular QF1/QF2 P1 i have had a very high % of upgrades from Premium to Business when travelling on my own. But when travelling with wife (platinum) we have had Zero success. Last flight had 5 available bus class the day before we flew, but still no upgrades. Is there a different policy somehow for joint upgrade requests ?

That's disappointing as a P1 - I'd hazard a guess it's because it is the kangaroo route and there are other CLs/P1s, also possibly travelling alone? I've had 100% success of up to 3 pax on other routes (and also success to/from LHR, solo).

yes very. Qantas rules claim that my wife's upgrade request is also processed as if she is P1.........but i dont think this is correct

Did your previous upgrade successes include “Upgrade at the gate”? Unfortunately, they’re not available when there are 2 or more PAX on a booking… That’s possibly the big difference.

this is also true. i would say maximum 25% of my previous success was upgrade at gate.

The other obvious factor is upgrading 1 v 2 (or more).

We often travel on seperate bookings (usually just to get the extra points on each CC) but as both WP, it usually doesn’t matter - except for the chance of upgrades and the obvious risk that one gets upgraded and not the other…

Mrs HockeyMonkey WP was very fortunate to get a J upgrade at the gate on a packed QF36 SIN-MEL last night via my WP1 request.

Last seat I believe and in 1A no less
I’m returning QF36 14th July - it was showing 7 J avail before I jetted off to Europe and over a week out from my return it was 0 already 😪 So have given up all hopes on this sector…

Got my fingers crossed for QF2 LHR-SIN sector as 4 J avail on this first hop (long odds as WP with flex Y tix but not completely? hopeless) with 0 avail on the SIN-SYD sector so hopefully that means those flying through both sectors won’t necessarily take priority in upgrades over those switching?

Well done Mrs HockeyMonkey :) Do you know if there is any way to unlock a joint booking/joint upgrade request to make it 2 single requests ? N
