Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

2x Y -J successes between SYD and PER yesterday (advised T-27) and today (T-16) as WP. Sat next to Sen Michaelia Cash on the SYD-PER flight. Not my cup of tea politically but can confirm she was absolutely charming and gracious to the crew throughout.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to ask this, but im on a flex Y QF ticket MEL-SIN-LHR (24-Jun) on QF35 and QF1. On requesting a J classic upgrade only QF35 has an option to select on departure upgrade as well. Is there a reason I wasn’t given the option for QF1? Is it because I’m only joining sector 2? or does selecting on departure consideration for QF35 also auto selects it for QF1?

And likewise on the return QF2 (13-Jul) doesn’t have an option for on departure consideration, only the second sector QF36 does?!

As SG: QF219 and QF10 fails, QF71 success t-27 (was surprised it was >24h out).

Was ~20sc short of WP before QF10, but have since ticked over to WP for the first time so hoping to clear a lot more upgrades in future. The ME calming down too thus reducing QFi loads as they shift back to EK and QR will likely be a large factor for future CR upgrades. Disappointed compared to my success last year on QF1 as a NB getting Y->J approved, but understandable given the current climate.

Successful upgrade Flex Y to J on Saturday 13th's QF60 Haneda-Sydney as WP on solo booking - return leg of joining husband on work trip where he was in a paid J seat with "send champagne to 24A" instructions :) The text came Friday 7pm ahead of Saturday's 10pm flight. Very nice to get the upgrade both ways!

I flew QF1 / QF2 SYD- LHR return in late may / early June. Was Gold for QF1 and Plat for Qf2. Booked in PE and successfully upgraded to J for the SYD-SIN leg of QF1 and the entire return flight on QF2. The QF1 upgrade came through a few hours before the flight and the QF2 upgrade came through some time in the night before the flight... Given the ME disruptions I was surprised that any upgrade was available...

MEL-DPS Y→J successful at T-27
DPS-MEL had only J1 a week out. At check-in everyone was offered an upgrade for about $800. Someone must have said yes.

I presume you had a classic reward upgrade request in prior to check-in? So they deliberately held back on processing a points upgrade in favour of trying to extract a cash upgrade?

Yes

I'd say so. I guess if all 150 Y passengers decline a cash upgrade, they'll relent and do a points upgrade at the gate.

I didn’t know QF did paid upgrades at checkin.
This is the first time I remember seeing prominent red A4 cards at every counter with words to the effect of 'Want to upgrade? Talk to us about your options.' Earning the original SCs and points without a lie-flat bed for a relatively short flight didn't make the upgrade very appealing.

Neither did I! I wonder if this is a QF experiment of additional revenue raising?
Well, of course but perhaps now made possible by the “confirmed upgrade” thing?
