dunno about July, but my bookings from that source for BNE-MEL-LHR-DXB-BNE trip mid-May is O, and BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE end May is N. (It does tell you before booking).

Found it (even if it was staring me in the face). They are 'H' on the dates that JohnK mentioned. They ain't gonna be cheap

Just did a dummy search on ITA SIN-BNE return, using QF and setting the sale city to Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The fare that was spat out (checked this for a few months) was around AUD 1,000. When I probed further for the fare type, it was H, which according to the fare rules is a "Fully Flexible" fare. No idea why no cheaper fares were available, but I did use ITA, and sometimes you get fares on the booking sites which you can't get on ITA.

When I checked the fare breakdown, there were no fuel surcharge line items. The base fare was just over AUD 900 for this sample search.

The base fares will fluctuate based on what QF assign for those fare buckets, which means sales do affect the costs even on expedia.com.br, because the base fare for those classes may change in and out of sales periods. The difference, for example, for SIN was something like $402 during a sale (on expedia.com.br, after including Expedia BR's booking fee and converting BRL to AUD), compared to $450 - $500 out of a sale.

The Flexi-fare ex SIN comes in around $1290 when booking on the QF website. Fuel Surcharges would go close to explaining the difference.e

So even though there are sale airfares available on those dates the Expedia Brazil website is only showing/selling 'H' class airfares? I guess that partly explains it. So no fuel surcharge but selling higher class airfares.

By the way I have not been able to find a cheap airfare on Expedia Brazil for any airfares ex-SIN on suitable dates.

Maybe cheap ex-SIN fares aren't made available form POS Brazil. I've always just got them from the QF SIN site.

There are some anomalies when buying from overseas sites, and one just needs to use the ones that exist!

According to one site, if you made an award booking from Brazil, you would not incur any fuel fines... I wonder if anybody has checked if QF award flights from Brazil incur fuel charges?

Seems to me that their is no advantage to book rewards this way

I have the same problem as well. Unable to book my flight that originates from Sydney. Not happy, Jan.

Have you rung your card services provider, even if they only have a lost card number I would call, as its likely to be the same division seeing Brazil as an issue.

Hi markis10. I should have been clearer in explaining that I tried the tip where I called my cc provider to let them know that the transaction will originate from Brazil. No luck there as they advised that they could see Expedia.br trying to put an initial charge through (I can even see it on my account statement on-line), but it doesn't appear that they followed through with the full charge of the flights. One suggestion that the cc provider suggested was to speak to Expedia.com.br and I tried doing that but I only got a voice recording n Portuguese which I don't understand. I appreciate your suggestion. That's what I like about this forum - the good suggestions and support. Thanks markis10.

You need to tell the provider that there will be multiple charges, as Qantas Brazil also charge at the same time.

Yes credit card providers are fickle - spending in San Juan without notice no problem, only a few hours after spending in Miami yeah its fine... few hundred at the Bacardi Distillery - still got no issue with that... couple of Hot Dogs at Costco in Kauai fine fine... You tried to buy a few things at Walmart oh hell no we gonna block that card... because that was the most alarming thing about out trip?!?

Expedia.com.br may be having an issue where the initial test amount is allowed through but the future transaction are caught so then they can't charge the actual airfare.

The issue with the Qantas Website is that is typically tickets and charges you from whatever your origin is. So, if you are trying MEL-LHR it will likely issue the ticket from Australia, regardless of which regional site you are using.

Yeah I think if you actually did a booking from Rio to point X, there would be in theory no fuel surcharges.

Just booked it.

The problem (after speaking with CBA) turned out to be a bug with the website that causes [Australian?] CCVs to be processed incorrectly. Apparently credit card providers can see the errors at their end.

Now flying MEL-SIN for the cup day weekend.

Hi BrentH

Would you mind sharing how the bug was fixed? Did you fixed it? Or was it the cc provider? I would be keen to understand exactly so that I can have the same success as you did. Many thanks in advance.

Problem must be with particular credit card providers as I have used my Australan credit card twice on expedia.com.br with no dramas whatsoever.

My CBA Mastercard would not work but my Citibank card had no problems.

Strangely I had several $1 test transactions on my CBA card from the Expedia.br site trying to charge my card but they fell off after the pending period expired.

just book a ADL-SYD-SIN-MEL-ADL ticket through the br website for oct. 28 Degree card was charged AUD $413.:p
