It will go to her email or what ever email addy you provide.

Why not use a UK address and join them for free then change back to OZ addy and get them to transfer the points to you as a thank you:D

The etickets always need an email address, so thats where it goes, and given its mileage earning, sign them up for QFF through the free link

The points earned at worse will be enough for a $50 woolies gift card each.

Booked for a family trip start of October and got the $405 (ended up $415 by the time it was converted to AUD by bank) just wish i'd come back here to read up on the hotel booking workaround for booking fee.

Why throw away the hotel booking though? Don't you still need somewhere to stay?

Return QF flights MEL-SIN + 2 nights accom at a 4 star hotel for under $450 pp twin share is INSANE value. You'd spend that going to the Gold Coast for the weekend!

What are the costs like once you've sorted accom and flights? I know SIN is a pretty expensive Asian destination but what sort of costs would be looking at per day for transport (taxis or PT) and food (hawker stuff - not fancy restaurants).

So tempted to consider this for Cup weekend...........

What's this Batam place like compared with the rest of SIN anyway?

Batam is in Indonesia, so there are added costs of a Visa to factor in, as well as the ferry.

I am not in a hurry to do a visit.

My info on SIN costs is a little dated, but when I was last there about 5 years ago, PT was cheap (a couple of $ for a trip), clean and efficient (trains every few min - no need for a timetable); taxis were cheap compared to MEL (about half the cost) and hawker style food was cheap too (a few $ for a meal). Things that were expensive included alcohol (about double AU), fancier restaurants.

If you don't want to throw away the hotel booking, you can also just book a better hotel that you want to stay in via expedia :D
It'll work out as around 50-60AUD discount for the hotel booking if you do that. I.e. you can get a return + conrad singapore for a night for around 550AUD.

Thanks

3 stays at the Conrad Centennial and 1 stay at the Hilton, although given the small price difference I might stick with 4 x Conrad stays!

Superb choice.. :D

Indeed, slightly OT, but we were talking about this at MEL drinks the other day. Conrad is better with a much better lounge, but the Hilton's more convinient location may sway some...

True, but I'd prefer to have my status recognised at the Conrad and earn some points through Hilton for the stay, so I need to book directly through the hotel

I was wondering about this as well. There was some discussions I saw before (either here or on FT) which says you can get your status recognized, although not with points and stay credit.

It seems like it's possible to get your status recognised but for the sake of $50 it's not worth the effort vs just booking directly

YMMV on this big time.

There are indeed some anecdotes of success, and some of failure with such.

The only way to guarantee both status benefits and earning is to book through Hilton.

Buying property is crazily expensive however public transportation is cheap (get a Smart Card / or an unlimited Tourist Pass (SG$20/3days) and go around on the subway or bus. Singapore is soooo small you could probably walk to most places anyway except its sticky hot.

Lots of hawker markets around, cheap as chips .... $2 per dish no sweat. However as much as I enjoy hawker food, I also love eating cheap at Food Republic food courts, again its cheap as chips.
