Qantas Status Credits Bonus Offers

My question is “Why is Qantas on the nose these days”?

Answer to that is relatively straightforward:
- Declining quality in food & drink, both in the lounge and on board (look at complaints about declining quality of First lounges, terrible NP salads on board, etc)
- Increasingly variable service (sometimes good, sometimes indifferent, sometimes terrible)
- 'Enhancements' of the QFF program (simpler & fairer, recent devaluation, etc)
- Increasingly ludicrous spin from the CEO that is ever more disconnected from reality (see the thread of the Qantas advantage in First)
- Longer and longer waits on the phone with fewer and fewer competent staff available
- Inability to enforce their own rules (eg denying people access to lounges contrary to oneworld rules)
- General tight fistedness (eg incredibly stingy 'compensation' for involuntary downgrades)
- Far superior options (especially internationally) for the same or less cost

Where is the “Double Agree” button?

I’m going from Platinum One last year to Zero flights booked with Qantas this year. Still arguing to get Status Credits earned in the last year applied. Despite screenshots of offers, successful registration, and tickets, the offshore centre are ignoring us.

A problem wIth this offer (at least for PAX in PER) is that the restriction to QF metal pushes the price up. J fares to LHR are around $8500. There are cheaper fares of around $6000-$7000 but only on EK metal. Meanwhile J on CX is around $5500 ATM. Double SCs might have been a temptation but 1.5x SCs are not.

Interestingly, the 50% offer I received didn't mentin "Operated by Qantas with QF number". It only said "flight with QF number"

"For a limited time, you'll be rewarded with 50% more Status Credits on eligible flights with a QF flight number on your ticket.* An eligible flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Qantas marketed flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Status Credits are normally earned."

I was referring specifically to the London offer.

While the language is ambiguous, it's worth noting there's an interesting T&C: Qantas Frequent Flyer members who reside in Australia (with an Australian address in their Frequent Flyer Profile). This suggests to me it is only for Australian residents, and while starting in the UK may not mean you're not an Australian resident, it may be how they're hinting the journey needs to start in Australia.
You can be an Australian Resident (Eg Aus Passport, and Aus Driving Licence) yet still want to start somewhere else. I feel its too ambiguous to really tell which direction. I'll give it a shot, I would be booking QF anyway as I want to retain WP and build up to LTG

Perfect timing....

Extract from today's Oz

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce has revealed he expects non-stop flights between New York and Sydney to be “really profitable” because of the premium the airline can charge on the route.

Speaking ahead of the historic Project Sunrise test flight Saturday morning (Australian time), Mr Joyce told Bloomberg he expected “massive” demand for the service based on the response to Qantas’s Perth-London flights.

“Perth-London is a 17-hour flight and we have a 95 per cent seat factor on that service, whereas typically for long-haul travel it’s 75 to 80 per cent,” said Mr Joyce.

“People are paying a significant premium in business class of over 1000 pounds ($1885) out of the UK to fly in that service.”

Thanks and indeed good timing.
I wasn't even looking at the direct PER-LHR flights. They don't interest me. I would much rather have a transit in SIN or HKG and time to walk around, have a meal, shower and change clothes in comfort. If they had an F cabin on the dreamliners I might aspire to that. Or, if I was flying in Y with no lounge access. Transits without lounge access are a completely different proposition.
I was comparing the fares on EK metal via DXB with QF metal via SIN.
If I look at QF9/10 the fare basically doubles to $15,000 return in J!
So that is almost three times the fare with CX!

What the general public see to what fares agents have access to (and agreed upon rates) are completely different.
Certain agents can get a B class CBR-MEL fare for around $180, where the commercial fare would be around $800.

So I just did a quick search. QF just to PER from the UK in February is GBP 4232. As a comparison (in GBP):

EK $4066
QR $4185
SQ $3888
CX $3578
MH $3578

The other way of looking at this is, people are still willing to pay the same price for EK and QR, despite it not being direct.

That's true.
However even AJ admits they are charging a premium for seats on QF9/10.
The only question is the magnitude of that premium.
If I look using agency access I can see flights for PER-LHR return on the same dates for $12,594.
On slightly different dates they could come down to $9,024.
Same flights would be $9,359 via the QF website with my Business Rewards discount.
But increase to $9,824 without.
Obviously my original dates are popular!

Remember that amaroo is quoting AJ, the same person who said Qantas has the best first class in the world LOL. You'd trust a used cars salesmen more than you'd trust AJ to tell you the truth. The man is so full of spin it is a minor miracle he doesn't topple over ha!

My question is “Why is Qantas on the nose these days”?
My input is that I am leaning to other carriers for value for money.
I am doing more flying out of Oz on NZ and CX.
They leave Qantas business Class meals for dead when it comes to quality and choice.
Thank God Neil Perry and his "healthy" food don't cater on other carriers!

I'm guessing that all of the SC offers have stopped now that the premium companion sale has dropped?

I need 530 more SC's to get back to WP (haven't been there for a few years), there is a trip to a conference that will earn 280 SC's but I'm kinda luke warm about going but a DSC might just increase the interest a little bit.

I wouldn't count on a general DSC offer in the near future.
