I haven't seen or come across any bonus offers regarding status credits in a while. I had a targeted one in June, but only for MEL LAX for a very limited time for which I could not use. There has been lots of conjecture on whether Qantas will go with the DSC rewards offers that they have offered over the last few years to all or whether they now just target individuals moving forward? It would be nice if a QFF employee was part of the forum.....sure there is plenty we'd like to know!!!!!! :) Any thoughts or knowledge from the punters?
Thanks all :)

My guess is that the Business lounges are getting too full - the DSC program has been too successful. It might take a year or two for all the Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers to go back to Gold? At that stage they might do it again??

Totally agree with all the comments re the lounges and domestic priority boarding lanes, which are at times, longer than the economy ones ! Most of the times I jump into the economy queue, as its faster! :)

Husband maintains without double status for the moment however the DSC are good for LTG
Actually just realised his end of year trip is DSC but funnily enough due to extra flights he has done he would have still maintained plat without the DSC

Just got my first targetted SC promofor the year - 50% extra SCs on MEL-SIN which is my most common route. Every little bit helps in the quest to maintain WP and get to LTG......

If this is the same as the offers I and many others have received you will be able to use the offer on any route.
The sector quoted in the email is just the sector the system has detected you searching for and which has triggered the offer.

Oh that is interesting thanks esseeeayeenn. Can you tell before/during booking that the bonus SCs will apply?

I'm P1, I enjoy flying Business Class and I have spare time. There are a few ways of effectively creating your own double status points flights. This is one example of many - Imagine you want to fly from Brisbane to Perth in Business Class - the cost is $1600 and you gain 80 SC. Now if you fly to Wellington and then fly to Perth, the cost from Wellington to Perth is $1480 and you get 165 SC. The reason is that on international routes Qantas needs to compete with other airlines. This would only appeal if you were happy to take the long way. Wellington has a reasonable hotel in the terminal.

For the example given by Mike 65, the costs from Melbourne to Singapore are similar to Wellington to Singapore but you get 200 SC as opposed to 120 SC. Another favourite of mine is to take a midweek A330 flight to Jakarta. You land at Terminal 3 and there is an OK hotel in Terminal 2 - have a nights sleep and then fly to Singapore. The cost is about half and the SC are the same.

To continue this theme, and depending on the dates, imagine you want to fly Brisbane to Melbourne in Business Class. The cost would be around $800 for 60 SC. Now if you flew Brisbane to Christchurch (for example) and then Christchurch to Melbourne the cost would be around $1000 for 160 SC.

Yes - all on Qantas. In the first example - Brisbane to Perth vs Wellington to Perth you need to decide how to get to Wellington - it could be any way on any airline - but Qantas would be fine. I live at the Gold Coast so it's convenient to go by Jetstar and get the Jetstar deal which gives Qantas FF points and SC. The same for the first part of the 2nd example. The 3rd example is all on Qantas. Tomorrow I'm flying to Singapore - it will be Qantas Business Class - Coolangatta to Sydney and then Sydney to Jakarta - stay the night and then Malaysian Airlines to Singapore from Jakarta via KL - but there are lots of options from Jakarta - e.g. Jetstar Asia. I thought I'd just get economy from Jakarta to Singapore but MAS sent a cheap offer to upgrade to Business which I've accepted. MAS is a oneworld partner and weirdly the details of the MAS flights show up on my iphone Qantas app (I'd given my Qantas FF number) but not on the Qantas website. I'm not expecting points or SC from MAS.

Leaving aside the details of the cheap offer you received, QF SCs on MAS are quite good on intra-asian routes, AFAIK there are no non-earning fare buckets and there is only one business class earn rate so usually discount business just counts as business.
You should earn 40 SCs CGK-KUL and 20 KUL-SIN.
On the other hand QF SC earn is awful on MAS flights from or to AU or Europe.

Thanks - good to know. The MAS site did ask for my Qantas FF number and the flights do show on the Qantas app.

Another angle on this is the benefit of joining Alaskan Air and American AAdvantage - both are free to join. Both allow purchase of miles and both have a rule of 20,000 miles for Qantas Business Class flights between any 2 airports in Australia. AAdvantage requires you to be a member for a month before allowing purchase of miles. They have a sale about every 4 to 6 weeks and during the sales the miles are about US2c per mile. The upshot is that you can take a Qantas flight at a reasonable time from Singapore to Perth (rather than overnight to say Sydney), stay overnight in Perth and fly Business Class say from Perth to Sydney to Coolangatta for about AUD$600 using the AA miles.

The nice thing about LTG is that I no longer care about SCs. Unless I have enough travel planned to make WP in a year (and I would always know in advance if that were the case) I don't need to earn any SCs at all for that year.
