Qantas results and fleet upgrade

The post referred to the 350. Considering that a lot of airlines have had their 787 and 380 orders delayed by the manufacturer, I don't believe it is such a good idea running into the 350 just yet.

I was also referring to the A350 which is still a dream to QR who placed their orders in 2005.

I think now is the perfect time to negotiate a good deal on some A350s. Looks like a beautiful plane to me and most importantly, it might not just be a "Dream" but actually fly in the real world!

...... but running way behind just like the 787 :!:

In which we agree!

Indeed, as does the airline industry going by the order book:

Orders and deliveries
2006 20
2007 330
2008 133
2009 22
2010 78
2011 -28
2012 27
2013 10

Deliveries – – – – – – – – –

The current variant of the A350 is only about a year behind schedule at this point in time......

After a two year delay resulted in the change of spec to get to that variant, with flight testing at least a year late Thats only the start.

Anyone notice the passenger mix?

H1 last year, 61% of total Qantas Group passengers were carried on Qantas brands

H1 this year, that number has fallen to 58%.

If it's even lower H1 next year, Jetstarisation will be unstoppable (although I suspect they'll count all passengers flying on Emirates metal as "Qantas").

I think you'll find the drop is due to the cessation of a few Intl routes last year, HKG-LHR, AKL-LAX, SIN-BOM.etc.

Interesting reading.

"Late 2014" to "start" the A330 refurb is slow. "Late 2013" or "immediate" would have been better.

.

I doubt that the word "immediate" (or even "soon") is in QF's version of the dictionary - you know, the one with the strange meaning of "enhanced" and "promise"

cant maximise the "brand value" of a decision without stringing it out and announcing it 5 times.... :)

The 'late 2014' start of the A330 J class upgrade (code for we may start one aircraft in Dec 2014) will mean you will not be guaranteed the new J seat until 2016 or maybe 2017. That is over four years + away from now. That is assuming they stick to announced plan.

If QF is really serious with an immediate upgrade of its A330 fleet, they could have adopted the new reverse herringbone J seats used by CX (also US and AA) pretty much straight away.

Those new J seats has to be really good to justify the long wait.

Could they? Ive been led to believe that there is quite a lead time when buying new aircraft seating.

Yes I know all that - but you are making the mistake that things cannot change, what to do until the already late and delayed B787 is finally back in the air? What if the unlikely event that it never makes it back in the air? What if Boeing engineers and production stops? How big are these delays going to be?

There is a temporary fix which is a titanium box containing the batteries with tubes venting outside the aircraft.... Though it must be noted it is yet to be approved, and will obviously add weight. With so much at stake a solution will be found sooner rather than later.

To be honest, I don't know the answer but I would imagine it would be probably shorter than the 20 months that QF is saying that it would take to develop and install the new J seats.

I believe CX and AA customised their J seats a fair bit (which might have taken a bit of time) whilst US picked an off-the-shelf model so it would really depend what QF wants.

At least now with this announcement we will get a330 to HNL ;)

The first four A332's only have a lightweight floor so they can't take skybeds, etc. I'm not sure if there is a refit to enable a heavier floor to take heavier seats. (If there is I'm sure it would be expensive).

Is it the first four or most of the ones with JQ bar from the recent few that they have
