Qantas (QF) in the news

....bottom line, Joyce and Clifford (as a minimum of the QF Board) are a sad waste of carbon and oxygen.
It is very clear that if Joyce is around for too much longer the damage caused may be irrepairable.

I don't quite understand why it is so difficult to make immediate changes and bring someone on board who knows how to run an airline.

If Joyce has a three year rolling contract it might take $10M to get rid of him. Also the directors who appointed him would lose face.

I keep hearing rumblings within QF he is good with the numbers but not quite good with the people side of the ledger.

At this rate there may not be a QF in 3 years time so 10 million may just be a drop in the ocean.

Yawn.. So Tony Sheldon is an expert at running airlines now??? he claims that the DFW flights have been disastrous.. Have they? I was under the understanding that they have been quite good.

Also the claim about strike hours v lockout hours. Well Tony, your phantom strike antics cost me more than the lock out (of which I was in London about to board a flight), So i say you did more brand damage during that time than the board.

To people who keep claiming Joyce is no good, I'd hardly say he inherited a good business to start with. It was well screwed by Dixon and Co. before he got there with the failed takeover bid and the share price had already tumbled before Joyce arrived.

LOL at describing DFW as disastrous.

People are, IMO, way too harsh on Joyce. There is only so much you can do with two arms and two legs tied behind your back

Heard on ABC ~6:50pm last night that VA have become a "virtual" international airline, flying a few core routes where they can make a profit and codesharing the rest.

It was proponed this was contemporary philosophy and has been shown to be successful. (I did not get the details.)

The suggestion was this is where Qantas is headed.

...which presumes that the directors want to get rid of him. I don't think they do.

I can't post smilies from my phone ;-), hence the sarcasm hasn't come through

It was a nice day over here yesterday!

I was (meant to be) on this flight yesterday. Spent 8 hours in the Qantas Club, watched police do their patrols in the actual Club on 4 occasions, struggled to find a seat, 5 deep at the bar once open. Lovely place to be!
