Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

I must say they're.....well, um.....surely a joke that nobody would seriously wear to a costume party let alone anywhere where normal people might see them............

As I found the Spartan shoes posted on Unilad, I think someone may be having a fish here...

And I thought this thread had run its course! Clearly a lot more life in the old thongs yet :)
And yes, whatever that footwear is, it's the height of boganism!
So true? As I was leaving the BNE business lounge last night 3 "ladies" were in heated discussion with reception staff not allowing one of them to enter as they had thongs on. One had sandals which were seriously ugly. And personally the rest of their appearance was trashy at best but it's not for me to judge.

One of them had alternate footwear and they were going outside to change but reception staff said they can change the shoes there in front of entrance to business lounge side. Not a good look.

I briefly went into the Qantas lounge and as I was leaving the "lady" was putting on what appeared to be half length army boot style shoes. They looked awful but there I go judging again and the wife will be most upset with me.

The whole reason of going to the lounges is to avoid the scruff you see out in the terminal? Obviously not.

Are these okay for the lounge?
(I'm asking for a friend.)

You can let your "friend" know that there are strappy versions available that would meet the lounge requirements.

No! The lounge is open to anyone and everyone. Money (used to get membership or status) doesn't buy 'class'.

An individual will get from a lounge what they want. If they keep to themselves and ignore others, they will have a pretty pleasant experience. If they choose to focus on others, they may not enjoy it as much.

(BTW I think the cow-thong shoes are hilarious! :D)

Thank you very much. I now have to go to bed with a mental image of a cow in a thong! If I really wanted that image, all I had to do was walk down Kings Cross!

The problem is that without even focusing, this stuff can be so "in-your-face". :(

I agree with this. I teach some of our AU society which we choose to call the youth. Some are impeccable.....in both behaviour and knowledge (including ability to learn). It really does tend to discard the stereotypical classifications that many (yes, even me) can be prone to rely upon at times in our criticisms. Some however, choose to degrade themselves to the level of bogan, with an almost air of self satisfaction. Who am I to castigate them? I also teach in the highlands of PNG where the socio-economic scene is a whole lot different. In PNG, I see a huge difference. I see people who are by circumstance, almost savage by nature.........yet, can be incredible, by pure intellect.
Regardless of the ability of the said person, it matters not whether a person is black or white (sorry to the politically correct set, but that is the base form PNG people use to describe PNG nationals from expats....and I find it very acceptable and even a breath of fresh air), what matters is a persons desire to exceed. In Oz, that happens....but not so much as in PNG.

Back to the topic.......being "in your face" is OK in small doses, but occasionally things are in your face, even when you try so hard to ignore! I have had in class, some men who are trying so hard (and in many cases exceeding exceptionally well) to excell in academia, but their BO would fell a bull elephant from 50 yards! How did I deal with that? I started something which is very much removed from trade theory.....I started to teach social acceptability. I bought (from my own pocket) anti-perspirant deodorants. Not very much related to their studies, but I asked them if they would like to learn about "western culture" and every single one of them was keen. Now I have a class of acedemically successful young gentleman, but also one that I can stand to be in the same room with without dry reaching! :) My next endevour is to attempt to coerce them into not killing their neighbour with whom they disagee. That will be far harder.

Very difficult to enjoy a lounge with one's eyes and ears closed.

I think thongs should be banned on all flights, not just the lounge. Flew business syd-perth the other week and this guy sat next to me and his feet stunk. I complained but no one was able to do anything about it.
