Thanks for posting. Interesting of the similarity in ex-Oz catering despite different markets. Good to see they have the Old Block, more often than not they have poor reds in F.

Odd choice that both MEL-DXB and DXB-LHR have roast rack of lamb. I'd have expected some variety in the protein and cooking style.

And not all the "* item available throughout the flight" have disappeared?

does this mean if I wake up 10 hours in and it's 3 hours till brekky that I can't order a steak sanga?

Champes was Comtes - I love Comtes:

And the reds:

So so what can I say about the food - let's see - Caviar tartlet would fit in corner of your eye - thrice cooked croquette - soup was delicious - lamb tasty but elegant proportion - beans on plate pumpkin and sweet potato together in side bowl - really - 2 red veggies together in same bowl? Salad consisted iceberg lettuce chopped up and nothing else - oh except for the vinegarette. For dessert I chose the Maggie Beer ice cream and crepe - why on earth would you serve crepes cold?

As for the wines - Champs excellent obviously - reds disappointing- Obsidian just way too young - the Ferngrove just ordinary.

Now as for brekky best I can say is pot of English Breakfast tea lovely - bowl of fruit tasted like it was cut up last week - scrambled eggs inedible.

None of the whites or reds look outstanding. Looking at the positive at least the champagne didn't run out early.

Food looked a little ordinary but, yes, the wines don't even get close to First class wines on other airlines. Eden Road is a whole $23. Surely they could have done better with at least an aged Xanadu or something worthy.

Such a pity QF don't value their F product passengers. Too many staff freeloaders and upgrades who don't complain do you think?

Lots of overlap with business. The only items that aren't shared with J are the canapes, kingfish, beef pho, blue eye, the lamb, and the steak sandwich.

I miss the days when the meal service in F was special.

Agreed - here is the SQ first class wines from last month as an interesting comparison:

The food was also very good - very different from SQ J (which in itself it more than acceptable).

To be fair the O'riada is not premium and can be found at times in QF J/F and also in the F lounge.

I noticed SQ have Penfolds RWT listed on some of their menus but was told by the CSM they rarely actually have it onboard.

to be fair SQ also offered VB as the premium beer on MEL-SIN in F. I kid you not. I'll have to dig out the menu :D

Clarification - post take off I thought I would die of thirst before the 'post take off' Champers arrived - little known fact is that quality Champs in close vicinity to my seat has a habit of dissipating into thin air - wait time to replenish seemed liked an eternity - try +10 mins consistently - yep I fully understand it ain't all about me (I do have 10 sisters) - but +10 mins?

And TBH all I have to compare to is SQ R/F - I do not want this to appear like a QF v SQ post - certainly not my intent - recently SQ F FRA-SIN listed both RWT and O'Riada on wine list - RWT was not loaded. O'Riada is OK - F quality - nah - nor was the St Hallet Blackwell Shiraz that SQ served for some time. Back to QF - I have some 2012 Obsidian in my cellar - tried one bott - seriously seriously good - way better then the 2013 I had other day - but it too is way too young.

Heres the thing - QF / SQ / EK whoever crow about a 'World Class Wine Selection Panel' - give me a break - these clowns either seriously test wines after a very very very long lunch or airlines are penny pinching - I am confused.
