Sorry, you lost me there, although I know virtually nothing about the Melbourne CRICKET ground. Other than CRICKET happens sometimes.

Edit: … and football, it seems. It's just an oval with seats, etc, isn't it?
Sorry, a bit of a weird analogy. I won't go further with that.
Some frequent flyers seem to have their noses out of joint about infrequent flyers having some sort of status, but some of those infrequent flyers may be just as valuable to QANTAS as them.
Depending what the offer is, it might encourage me to stick more on my QF point earning card at the expense of Virgin points.

I'm dumbfounded by the people who suggest frequent spenders should somehow be afforded some of the premium benefits of the Frequent Flyer program.

They do already .... just depends what class of ticket they buy.

No big deal IMO

Yeah I don't get it either, it is Qantas Frequent Flyer program by name only and has been for some time. This is not dissimilar to pretty much all airline/hotel loyalty programs around the world now that earn a significant proportion of profits through selling their points through third parties (mostly financial institutions).

Is it then so hard to understand why Qantas are looking to reward this type of member that may actually be more profitable to the business then people who fly :confused:

If you're an infrequent flyer expecting benefits from a frequent flyer program, then you've backed the wrong horse.

Yet they can (and do) make the company more money then someone who flies. So not really a hard business decision to understand rewarding valuable customers, even if they don't fly.

Surely it is not that hard to understand why. Not weird at all.

BTW, you can a pretty infrequent flyer to get some benefits already. Just fly to JFK cirst class return and you'll be in the lounge for you next Jetstar flight to Gold Coast
To take your example before regarding a Silver FF v the 150K 'Points Club'.

To get Silver takes 300 status credits, let's use an average BNE-MEL return Discount Y - 30 SC @ $360 = $3,600 revenue to QF group and you obtain Silver.

150,000 QFF points earnt from an external partner, let's use the price of 1c pp is $1,500 revenue to QF group.

Using QF's basic Underlying EBIT % in their segment reporting, both of the above would generate a similar underlying EBIT from the revenue above. (note the above assumption completely discounts how accounting revenue is recognised under AAS's)

Either way, asking someone to summarise a whole program where there is already a wealth of resources as well as a website at www.britishairways.com, is somewhat lazy.

Well, maybe, but here at AFF we like helping each other out. Lack of knowledge on one party is usually filled by a kind response from somebody else.

Précis is what I requested. Not a 1 liner.
I am travelling over the next couple of weeks, but as long as I have phone reception when I get a quiet few minutes I will give you a call. More than happy to help out as I know you have a bit going on at the moment. AFF is about sharing after all.

… and then they redeem on 60,000 point toasters! o_O

Interesting. Thanks for that.
I'm sure I read that 150 k points club would actually give you lounge access suggesting it is more on par with Gold.
I expect points are worth more than 1 cent per point to QF in revenue. 1 cent pp is my guide for minimum value to get when redeeming points on basis of 8000 points being worth $80 for MEL <--> SYD (my typical reward). Given the much better value for J and Y redemptions, I expect QF would want to be getting a lot more than 1 cent per point.

Travelling and working a lot so missed the announcement and much of the speculation. Was sitting in the SYD F lounge about 10 hours ago now and heard someone say “lifetime platinum”. Assumed it was a joke. Now that I’ve had the opportunity to catch-up on emails and AFF I can see it is indeed a bit of a joke. 75K. Yikes.

Still, I’m happy QF has introduced it. Gives some incentive to some flyers. I’m glad it is is so high that it won’t change my travel patterns. I’m thoroughly enjoying flying other carriers, including VA domestically which (on most routes) is so far ahead of QF it’s not funny. But I still fly QF a lot and it is encouraging that my excess SCs might count toward something after all - even if I die before I can enjoy the benefits.

Qantas is now the most expensive program in Oneworld for long haul premium redemptions in award buckets.
And now, the most expensive to earn lifetime Emerald.

There are far more advantageous options out there. But you can only lead someone to the water.... can't make you drink it.
