Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

Perhaps my shortest ever AFF post :D

I told you so. For months.

You're Welcome. :)
In reality with 'no' flying, I expect the offer doesn't actually cost anything to them but does ensure we stay connected when travel resumes. I'd expect it will eventually be extended to all members to the end of Dec 31.
Same. First page. Aug 11, 2021 😂

re further DSC offers. I really do not think, and I have written this before (so apologies for boring people as usual), that the latest extension has any effect on DSC offers being made. They serve different purposes in my view. DSC is used to stimulate demand (and look at the triple points/NSW promo). It is one of the tools QF does use when they're trying to get that demand going. If they think it will help to do it then they will.

As noted, those with extensions looking to add to rollover may take advantage if one comes along so revenue poisitive for QF. For those with extensions looking maybe to up status level then revenue positive for QF. If Someone's just started a new membership year or has one coming up then they may well take advantage as well - so again revenue positive to QF.

It's not really going to add too much to QF's costs at this point in my view, and any extra revenue gained would likely offset that anyway.

I'm not saying it's certain QF will do one, but in no way at all would I be shoced if one showed up in the next few months either.

I guess the point of just about evryone now having ability to get a status extension that the *need* for a DSC promo for those looking to retain their status is now gone, but that is why things like counting for rollover, up to that 50% level, can still provide incentive to some to take advantage.. so again a positive for QF.

so we'll see.

Some of us have a oversupply of TP's with DSC attached as is.....

a new booking they say... hmm that can work :D

Is it really that late in the year? Even if your anniversary date is 31 July, that still gives five months of further travel(including the last 7) for SC's to be accrued to rollover. OK it's not half the year, but it's not a month to go.

And of course if it's a December anniversary date well they have 9 moths.....
I’m 31 July‘er and YTD have amassed 47 SCs 😳. Figured there was no way I was going to get 1200 SCs in 6 mths, so haven’t been going out my my way to chase SCs. In fact, I ended up burning all my SQs points on 2x J LHR return flights in March/May. So that’s another 6 wks spoken for - although I will have some intra Euro flights on BA. That leaves about two months to maybe grab a couple of extra SCs. Including the necessary QF flight!

At least using my SQ points now won’t eat into quality SC earning time next membership year 🤣.

Understand fully of course.

I guess that's exactly the point of the extension.. so anything one earns now (in addition to 47) will rollover, but that is kind of the cherry on top to reduce your 1200 total in the next membership year. You're still coming out in front really. Specially flying a better airline long haul :D

enjoy!

Appreciated, but wish the rollover was a little more for WPs (though at least there is rollover).

I'd be surprised if a DSC came. Those that need to fly are flying and those that dont aren't or may be persuaded by a sale to get closer to BFOD situation.

Status Extension - members with a status end date between July - December 2022 NEW

Eligible members with a status end date between 31 July and 31 December 2022 who reside in Australia or New Zealand and are unable to earn the Status Credits needed to retain their status will receive a 12-month status extension provided that before the end of their current Membership Year, they simply make at least one new eligible booking for travel before 31 December 2022.

Additionally, Qantas will rollover accrued Status Credits for eligible members up to a maximum amount, from their eligible Membership Year to help kick-start their new Membership Year.

Just received this email earlier today. Not sure what to make of it given I've already booked out 530 status credits worth of JQ MAX flights. On the one hand it's annoying that I didn't need to travel this much to earn the status. However, I have no regrets exploring Australia whilst domestic travel remains affordable and less crowded. Does frequent flyer status cause you to travel more or does travelling more cause you get to get frequent flyer status? It's a question that's open for debate.

One question I do have though, is how to handle threshold bonus upon crossing 500 SCs on JQ (expected to hit that threshold in October for a status year that ends in November)? Would it be possible to apply that status credit threshold bonus for the next program year, starting December 1, 2022? I know all the JQ domestic flights Based on my analysis, I'll have 110 status credits rolling over (90 from a JQ international flight to HNL, and 20 from a QF regional flight) but having that extra 50 status credits for the 2022/2023 program year will be the cherry on top for me!

Yes, the Loyalty Bonus has a 90 day period to make one's selection, so if you put it off till after your membership anniversary of 30 November and select the 50 SC they apply to the new year which is a quick noted quite a bit since it came in.. so you should be able to do this within the timeframe you've given.

but also won't you get those 500odd SC's rolled over into he new year also? JQ MAX flights are eligible...

Does anyone know if this just gets applied on expiry date? I am U.K. based WP with expiry April 2022 and it’s still showing as expiring then (ie not 2023).

yes, you should find it extended on 1may (AEST) I would imagine.

This offer seems to work quite well for me as a Gold with an August birthday.

I also expect to have about 250 SC's this membership year, so they should be rolled over to make it a bit easier next year.

I must say that this is somewhat in contrast with my BAEC Gold membership, as BA have not announced (and are unlikely to) any further extensions for people with birthdays July-December. So I guess I'll be letting that lapse.

Thanks for the insight into the threshold bonus. So it looks like I'll decide on which threshold bonus to choose on December 1, 2022 (or so) when my new year starts. Out of curiosity do these bonuses count towards lifetime status or is it just BIS SCs that count (I take it rollovers don't count for lifetime status)?

As for your second point, the status credit roll over only considers the following fares (emphasis added):

What flights are eligible to qualify me for the Status Credit rollover?
To be eligible for the Status Credit rollover, you need to book, pay and have the ticket issued on at least one of the following:

  • Any Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number, or
  • Any Qantas Points earning Jetstar international booking with a JQ flight number including Jetstar flights within New Zealand (JQ), Jetstar Japan (GK) and Jetstar Asia (3K) flights. Jetstar domestic flights within Australia are ineligible.
So all those JQ domestic flights I've taken be it to MEL, DRW, OOL or CNS won't count. But at the same time, the JQ flights to HNL should count since, as of yet HNL is not considered a domestic destination (at least by Aussies). For yours truly this is a domestic trip across the ditch.

oooh myu bad I missed that bit about JQ dom. that's a bit nasty and does not make much sense. my apologies on that.

so yes it appears LB SC's *DO* count to lifetime SC

from: https://help.qantas.com/support/s/article/Frequent-Flyer-Status-Credits

When members choose to receive Loyalty Bonus Status Credits, these Status Credits will count towards reaching and keeping Silver, Gold and Platinum, as well as reaching Lifetime Silver, Gold and Platinum. When chosen before 31 December 2021, Loyalty Bonus Status Credits will count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One. Loyalty Bonus Status Credits will not count towards the next Loyalty Bonus Platinum Bonus Reward or other Platinum One additional benefits.

HNL would count, but keep in mind if you are in the JUL-DEC 2022 group, anything booked before today won't count toward making you eligible.

Thank you all! And SCs will rollover? I have 110 credits that seem to have “rolled over” on May 1 2021 (don’t know why only 110 rolled over but there you go) - will these reroll over? And if I fly on oneworld between now and end April I assume those SCs will rollover too?

Good thing I have no flights booked at the moment. So I’ll be sure to do a new booking for my next flight.

Wondering what I should do with the gift card I booked July 2021 during the triple points promotion.
It will still be a while before I am wandering
