Reading this thread in DXB on a KBL-BNE run. Initial thoughts below, I'd like to see more of the details re scheduling and pricing.

Initially thought 'cool' re the announcement, but I don't know it will be good. EK has no Y+ product and hideously expensive J every time I've looked.
...

Been waiting for this to be raised, given the popularity of Y + nowadays I think this will be an issue, and a boon for Asian airlines who are introducing it now like CX.

I think Qantas decision to drop SyD-Bangkok-LHR and there own metal in to Europe will also be an issue. My preference for Europe will now be with CX through Asia. I have no concerns with the ME other than I just don't want to go that way.

Btw does Dubui have problems with fog like abu-dhabi ?

If i book a flight with EK in economy to ROME and I am a member of QP will i get access to the lounge in Per and Dhubi when this marriage takes place ?????????????????????????????????????????

Let's not get carried away. Indications are yes for PER. The detail will come out in due time.

Im not sure about all these comments about Emirates business class being expensive. We priced Sin-Dubai-Istanbul (all Y as no Y+) then Venice -Dubai-Sin Business Class for less than $6500 for 2 people. Seems pretty reasonable. And the Emirates website allows the same PNR booking but in different clases for each sector according to your needs.

I doubt it, I suspect for QP members you might need to be travelling on a QF flight number. Or at least an itinerary with a QF flight number.

Anyway this is just guessing, you will have to wait for more details to become clear.

Only the lounge in Dubai outside of Australia as a QP member.

[h=3]Lounge Access[/h]17. If I choose to fly with Emirates from Australia to Dubai, can I still use the Qantas lounge at my departing airport in Australia?
Yes. If your class of travel or Frequent Flyer status gives you lounge access and both lounges are available, you will be welcome in either the Qantas or Emirates Lounge.
18. As a Qantas Club member will I have access to Emirates lounges worldwide?
If you are travelling on Qantas, your lounge access will remain unchanged. If you are flying with Emirates you will have access to the Emirates lounge in Dubai.
19. As a Qantas Frequent Flyer will I still be able to use the Australian domestic lounges if I am connecting from an Emirates international flight?
Yes. Your Domestic Lounge access eligibility will remain unchanged for Qantas even if your journey has mixed Qantas and Emirates flights.

Really, they have $8.5B Cash on hand over the next ten years reversing the last few years of being cash flow negative?? Thats not what was said in the announcements.

Not sure how much will be cash but it won't be much, unless they raid QFF which has most of the reserves.

And the next dot point says? Not to mention the big red highlight bit at the end.

It's a great alliance if you live in Sydney and Melbourne.

For me and all of us in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Darwin and another place not Syd / Mel -- it means Qantas has made it impossible to fly on a QF plane to Europe without stupid routing options.

May as well be loyal to Emirates themselves or for better Y seats... Singapore / Virgin or Etihad / Virgin now.

Sent from my iPad using AustFreqFly app

It will be possible to get a QF flight from Dubai to london.

Neither of which say they will use cash to buy planes, just try and raise some. Reality sees the projected balance sheet requiring a capital injection in the near future at considerable expense given the credit rating change.

not so bad for BNE and ADL - only 1 hour flight to SYD or MEL...I know not the best, but still not so ridiculous as PER and DRW

Agreed ChrisCunard, my 2c worth is that my J fare from Brisbane to Europe will be an inferior product now, as I am booked on a QF flight in May 2013 Brisbane to Singapore on one of the refurbished 747 to connect to the QF9 service from Singapore to London, all on Skybed MK11, so lie flat beds, but now if I will be flying Brisbane to Dubai (14+ hrs?) on Emirates I believe it will be on an angled bed? And lounge access in Europe is very unclear? I find it hard to believe I will be accommodated on the QFA380 Syd or Mel to Dubai with the extra demand that I imagine will occur from Bris/Adel/Per as people wish to fly on QF product?

I wouldn't hold your breath about keeping Skybed MkII between BNE and SIN. (That is always subject to change).

As for the EK product from BNE to DXB, it is lie-flat. TheEKsource does have a good run down on what product is what with EK.

I don't know, what does reduce debt mean? Because what you didn't highlight does talk about reducing debt.

Besides isn't $8.5 billion what they save from the cancelled 787s. I also recall reading that current aircraft purchases can now be purchased from free cash flow, which was the basis of my comment. I really couldn't be bothered going through the other 100+ pages but I'm not going to accept one dot point given the totality of the results announcement.

Presumably many doing xONEs will be flying QF SYD/MEL-DXB, then BA-LHR.
What are the other oneworld connections into DXB like?

I posted this in another thread but it should still be up-to-date:

As far as One World is concerned........

BA also have a few daily flights between DXB-LHR. Premium Economy on those flights as well
Finnair fly DXB-HEL (I think, although I must admit I've never seen a Finnair tail at DXB)
Royal Jordanian fly DXB-Amman (and on to London, Berlin, Munich, Athens, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Milan, Vienna, Zurich, Rome)
Sri Lankan Airlines fly DXB-Moscow
S7 fly DXB-Novosibirsk (wherever that is)
And if you can bother doing the 75 min drive between DXB and Abu Dhabi (~ $60 taxi), then Air Berlin fly AUH-Berlin and BA fly AUH-LHR

...........and for the Velocity folk,
VS fly DXB-LHR.

You mean the dot point that says aircraft will be purchased with a mix of cash and debt, LOL.

Qantas would be trying to not do a share issue when the price is so modest like Virgin had to when they stumbled a while ago.
Qantas debt is now one notch from "junk grade " and a further downgrade would make borrowing much more expensive.
Singapore Airlines have announced that they will not buy any more "jumbo planes like A380" as they have not produced profits to justify it.
Emirates are marginally profitable based on the amount of money being used but they don't seem worried about that as they build a world airline.

Thanks mannej for the heads up, but from what I can see on both the Emirates website and the EKSource, Emirates uses the 777-300ER out of Brisbane. Both of these sources also say the lie-flat seat is available on MOST of the services operated by 777-300ERs. Seat Guru says these are the angled type, not the flat bed type. Can anyone share their experience in J on this aircraft out of Brisbane?

Phew, I finally made it to the end after 4 sessions of reading 20+ pages at a time. I was slow off the blocks and the thread had 60+ pages when I started. I only wish there was a filter option on the topic where I could avoid posts including words such as wars, falcons, halal etc. Actually, maybe not as it was so funny reading some of the strange views of people out there.

My opinion (as a lowly recent newcomer to AFF) is this is a fantastic alliance that will give us more options in the future and will make life easier for family travelling out from the UK (NCL) without the hassle of LHR (they are not allowed to fly EK as I transfer their FF points on an annual basis). I am going to be very interested in the departure time from Sydney for QF1 otherwise we may end up on EK413 to connect in to EK35 to NCL. Otherwise, we will still get QF1 and have a day or two stopover in DXB to explore somewhere new (not previously left the airport terminal). Fortunately, I do not feel the need to have a stubbie in may hand whilst walking along the street so I should be ok. :)

Myself and the missus have friends and family all over Europe, Asia and America and we will struggle to find options that do not work for us with QF which makes us both very happy - QF and EK A380's with alliance partnerships just about everywhere. What I need to do now is push to get my SG to WP. We have one more trip on QF1/2 booked for Dec 12/Jan 13 so will make the most of potentially our last transfer at LHR (it will be a happy day).

PS - Should I commence buying Qantas shares now? :D

I'd await regulatory approval (or the inevitable leak regarding regulatory approval) before any share purchase.
All jokes aside though, the real spike in QAN shares will come in the 2 hours immediately after the release of the ad showing Miranda Kerr as a belly dancer.
