Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Thursday 3 September, QF59 (A332 VH-EBN, the 1115 hours SYD-HND) pointed skywards at 1225 hours. Gate arrival should be 2103 hours, 53 minutes late.

On Wednesday 2, after arriving in LAX at 1455 hours, 25 minutes late as QF11 from SYD, A388 VH-OQD operated empty from LAX to SFO, arriving at 1931 hours, an hour later than planned.

It is forming QF336 from SFO to MEL, a 2300 hours timetabled departure, to bring highly (over) paid gridiron players to MEL.

Given the all-too-frequent unreliability of QFi's A380s, it's surprising that the airline believes it can charter the 'spare'..

Wednesday 2 September's QF8 (DFW-SYD) took off at 0110 hours on Thursday 3, so Friday gate arrival should be about 0812 hours, 77 minutes late for 388 VH-OQC. It had arrived in DFW at 2109 hours, 519 minutes late.

Also on Thursday 3, the 1555 hours MEL-SIN QF37 with A332 VH-EBL was airborne at 1704. Arrival at gate looks to be 46 late at 2251 late tonight Singapore time.

QF147 (the evening 1755 hours SYD-AKL with B738 VH-XZN) took off at 1921 so arrival should be at 2353 hours, 58 minutes tardy.

B738 VH-VZP is on the 1635 hours CHC-SYD, QF136 that was in the sky at 2003 hours. Gate arrival at 2133 hours, 203 minutes late is suggested. Its only other flight today, the 1020 hours SYD-CHC QF137 was similarly delayed.

QF81, the Friday 4 September 1020 hours SYD-SIUN with A388 VH-OQH is expected to shortly depart at the odd time of 1212 hours.

Due to QF5 departing late from SYD yesterday, on 4 September the second sector (PER-FCO in Italy) is expected to arrive with B789 VH-ZND at 0816 hours, 121 minutes late.

Thursday 3's QF10 from LHR to PER (the 1155 hours) was in the sky at 1307. On Friday 4, gate arrival for B789 VH-ZNG should be at 1223 hours, 38 minutes late.

UPDATE: QF81 took off at 1220 with SIN gate arrival estimated as 1813, 78 minutes behind schedule.

Anyone know what happened to QF27 (VH-ZNN) yesterday?

Seems it did not depart at all, and today it is flying as QF27D as well as the normal QF27 flight also flying today, both flights about 1.30 apart...

The Thursday 3 September 2330 hours scheduled QF12 from LAX to SYD is meant to have A388 VH-OQB. More than four hours later, it doesn't appear to have departed from Los Angeles.

The crew must be getting close to exceeding the duty limit that IIRC is 20 hours. If so, the flight may be cancelled.

A388 VH-OQB remains in LAX as QF12 (see above) did not operate.

As a result, on Saturday 5 September, QF7, the 1200 'high noon' SYD-DFW has been cancelled., as has QF8 back to SYD that should normally depart DFW also today.

B738 VH-XZJ is on QF101, the 0850 hours morning SYD-NAN in Fiji. Takeoff was at 1012 hours, so gate arrival should be about 1551, 56 minutes late. The aircraft had overnighted in Sydney, so not sure why the delay, though at some stage it had to transfer from QFd's terminal to QFi's.

QF127 (A332 VH-EBN, the 1010 hours SYD-HKG) wasn't in the sky until 1145 hours. Gate arrival should be about 1906 hours, 71 minutes late.

Breaking news from Channel 9 - there is a major emergency diversion on QF122 from Queenstown to SYD, there was an engine issue with flames 🔥 caught on camera - landed safely in Christchurch

Aircraft is 15 year old B738 VH-VZQ

CC @Melburnian1

@RooFlyer elsewhere on AFF says it was a case of 'compressor stalls' : he summarised as 'nothing to see here'.

Continuing with Saturday 5 September, QF41, the 1410 hours SYD-CGK A332 had not departed by 1700 hours. Yet it's not (yet) displaying as 'cancelled'.

The weekly ROR-BNE flight that's upgrading to twice per week is normally punctual but on Saturday 5 September, QF200 (B738 VH-VZB), the 0830 hours ROR-BNE took off very late at 1050 hours.

It is diverting to OOL, where gate arrival should be at about 1731 hours instead of the scheduled 1510 mid afternoon BNE arrival. The BOM forecast was for BNE to suffer smoke haze. There is rain offshore from BNE airport. Quite a few other flights using Brisbane are significantly delayed, with arrivals holding for long periods, so 'smoke haze' may be the reason.

QF354 from VLI to BNE has E190 VH-UZD. This 1510 hours flight took off ahead of time at 1514, but as at 1715 was holding over water, with gate arrival said to be blowing out from 1715 to 1759 hours.

Domestic QF536 from SYD to BNE is showing as having an expected two hours in the air with likely gate arrival 1756 hours, 66 minutes late for B738 VH-XZG.

In more on Friday 4 September, A388 VH-OQG is operating QF7012 that should be conveying passengers, rather than being a 'QF60--' 'ferry flight'.

This 2240 hours scheduled offering took off at 0039 on Saturday 5 with Sunday 6 gate arrival suggested as 0713 hours, 68 minutes late.

On Saturday 5 September, QF12 took off from LAX at 0301 hours with the >24 hour delayed A388 VH-OQB. Sunday 6 gate arrival should be about 1004 hours, 154 minutes late.
