Qantas Delays/Cancellations

I'm an absolute newbie, but where do you find the info as to which aircraft will operate which future route? Thank you!

One way is looking on the QF website and finding which gate number an arrival has been allocated, and then matching that to a departure (or doing that in reverse). There are only, for instance, a limited number of A380 flights QF operates: SIN/LHR (QF1) and LAX (QF11) daily, DFW (QF7) six days a week and (over Christmas for a limited time) QF127/128 to/from HKG. In MEL it's also a small number: QF35 to SIN and QF93 to LAX daily.

Sometimes when problems occur this information can change. On occasion one doesn't find out until a flight has departed and shows up on website Flight Radar 24 (which we abbreviate to FR24).

AFF member Flyerqf is a whiz at all this and sometimes I suspect - hehe - collates information from other websites. That's perfectly OK.

lynnk, one other point is that QF's first refurbished A380, registration number VH-OQK has a differently configured seating plan to the other 11, so one can look up (for free) a flight number by date, origin and destination on the Expert Flyer website. Should it be OQK, it'll be obvious. The Seat Guru website has a map of the vatrious seating plans for each class (model) of aircraft by airline. Hope all this helps.

Any contributions you or others can make are always most welcome as I and others cannot monitor every delay or cancellation, so there are numerous occasions when I for instance miss things, or have incomplete (or sometimes incorrect) information. The more the merrier.

Thank you for the clarification. I haven't heard of the Expert Flyer website. I have been keeping an eye on the various A380s, esp vh-oqk, as I'm flying to LA friday next week (QF11). Hoping to get the new configuration, but not too concerned. AT this point, just hoping my flight isn't on some sort of rotating cancellation schedule as there are 3 A380s out of action at the moment.

The delayed QF26 from HND down to SYD should arrive on Tuesday 12 November at 1044 hours, 69 minutes tardy.

QF29, the 0940 hours MEL north to HKG is showing as delayed in pushback until 1030 but the delay has extended beyond that. Arrival is expected at 1700 (55 late) at the very least.
 
I see that VH-oqC will finally leave sydney, after more than 24 hours on the ground ,as QF11. I think that plane was meant to run the cancelled QF7 from yesterday. Anyone have any ideas what happened? It did arrive in sydney on time yesterday.

There have been - and may still be - four of the 12 inoperable: two due to planned refurbishments, one from the 'SYD door incident' and one due to failure.

That's 33 per cent of the fleet, an intolerable situation for the vast majority of transport operators, surface or air (possible exception: EK with its large fleet of A380s.)
 
On Tuesday 12 November, QF is indicating that QF94 from LAX to MEL (A388 VH-OQD) that took off at 2310 hours - punctually - on Sunday night 10 November will be diverted to SYD where the stop is from 0938 to 1040, meaning eventual MEL arrival at 1225 hours, 145 minutes late. Happy to be corrected but this may be a famous AFFer Quickstatus 'fill up and go' stop due to adverse winds.

As a result the 1210 hours lunchtime MEL - SIN QF35 is expected to push back at 1430 this afternoon, 140 late with SIN arrival at 1930 tonight, 145 late. The 1940 hours QF36 from the Lion City down to MEL overnight is forecast to push back at 2125, 105 late with Wednesday 13 November arrival a suggested 0750, 110 minutes behind schedule. If this flight loses much further time and forms the MEL - LAX QF93 as is mostly QF's practice, the latter may be delayed on Wednesday morning as it is timetabled to depart at 1040 hours.

VH-OQD departed at 1039 and took off from SYD at 1106, so arrival in MEL is estimated at 1232 hours, 152 late.

the other option is that they put the delayed DFW-syd passengers on that flight and stopped in sydney to offload them... maybe? Longshot? It has been very windy, that's for sure. This arvo is going to be awful.

This 1110 hours SYD - LAX is delayed in departure until at least 1140 hours on Tuesday 12 November.

UPDATE: Projected departure has become 1210 hours with same day arrival still showing as 0605, only five late.

The AbuDhabi and Dresden maintenance was planned into the schedule so you really can't count those - it's the others causing the issues

Mind you adding to the A380 issues, also appears to be an issue with 747 OEH which hasn't flown since arriving from JNB on Sat (per airliners)
 
vh-oqc is now in the air. Took off an hour late to LA as qf11. Saw it pass overhead as it followed the harbour out to sea .. SO hopefully whatever was wrong is now fixed (there speaks a nervous flyer 😂). SO now they are only down 3 A380s again. fingers crossed.

QF29 departed MEL at 1134 (114 minutes late) on Tuesday 12, so arrival in HKG should be 1751, 106 late. If the aircraft forms QF30, it should not be more than a bit late departuing, as the schedule calls for 1905 hours.
 
...UPDATE: QF12 from LAX to SYD is later than predicted last night, with estimated arrival on Tuesday 12 becoming 0951, 76 minutes behind the timetable. It is still to form the 21.5 hours late overnight delayed QF7 to DFW.

The overnight delayed QF7 was intended to depart SYD at 1200 'high noon' on Tuesday 12 November but this became 1238 hours. DFW arrival is predicted (same day) as 1020 hours, 1285 minutes late.

The Monday 11 QF8 is still delayed an exact 24 hours with pushback expected at 1945 hours on Tuesday evening, 12 November from DFW.

Tuesday's QF35 departed MEL at 1443 hours, 153 minutes tardy. SIN at gate arrival should be 1950, 165 late. Tonight';s QF36 is showing as a 2145 hours pushback - a realistic timeframe in which to 'turn around' the aircraft, but 125 late - with Wednesday 13 MEL arrival suggested as 0810 hours, 130 late. QF is yet to indicate gate number but given QF35 on Wednesday is an A332, there's a good chance that this A388 will 'ferry' (run empty) up to SYD tomorrow late morning due to the shortage of operable A380s.

Monday 11 November's QF16 (the B789 at late night 2320 hours LAX down to BNE) pushed back 34 late with Wednesday morning 13 arrival suggested as 0749, also as luck would have it 34 late.
 
QF81 (A332 VH-EBM), the Tuesday 12 November 1125 hours SYD up to SIN departed 22 late but arrived 40 late at 1725 hours as it did not take off until 1218 hours.
 
Planes are on holding pattern near Sydney, QF102 NAN-SYD (B738 VH-VZJ) had a late arrival at 19 32, 77 tardy.
QF458 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VZX) arrived to gate at 20 03, 98 late.
QF2117 CFS-SYD (DHQD VH-LQQ) was also late at 20 39, 124 min behind schedule.
QF456 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VXQ) had a revised arrival at 19 43, 63 min late.
QF454 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-XZE) arrived at 20 14, 79 min tardy.
QF764 ADL-SYD (B738 VH-VZZ) arrival wasn't as bad as other, arriving at 20 00, 60 late.
QF747 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-XZN) is suggested to arrive at 21 00, 80 min behind schedule.
QF460 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VXG) is predicted to arrive at 20 56, 61 min tardy.
 
Adding to Silvia's comprehensive information, on Tuesday 11 November 2019, QF479, the scheduled 1845hours SYD down to MEL is estimated to arrive at 2230, 130 minutes tardy. Winds are gusting to about 54kmh at Sydney Airport.

QF148 from AKL to SYD (A332 VH-EBP) is the 1900 hours airborne punctually at 1914, but arriving at 2107, 32 late.
