This is highly likely a double post, so please close it if so, but a quick search on safety and cricket in this forum returned nothing.

I just flew JFK-LAX and sat through Qantas's latest attempt at matching Air NZ's safety videos. Unfortunately I think they are successful only in the cringe worthy lines category.

Before "we know you are all capable of operating a seat belt, but..."
Now "Captain. Captain" and "thanks skipper" and "if only I could get the team to listen to me" <shudder>.

I'm glad I dont have to watch it too often.

Thoughts?

Agreed. On the last international trip I was on, even the crew commented that they couldn't understand why non-Aussies would even know or care about Aussie cricketers. I tend to agree. IMHO, these safety videos (starting with the Olympic ones) have been one cringe fest after another. Please RedRoo, get the marketing department to drop them and go back to the simple safety vids.

HATE HATE HATE this safety video. it's really embarrassing. PLEASE SOMETHING A BIT MORE PROFESSIONAL AND LESS AWKWARD QANTAS! The clapping and high fives down the aisle make me want to vomit. The yelling and screaming during the clapping hurts my ears when the volume on the PA is up.

GET RID OF IT NOW!

They should just put the John Travolta video back on. At least professional actors are good at acting and nobody feels embarrassed during the safety video... Personally, I can't stand the NZ safety video either. I think I only enjoy safety video in languages I don't understand, Finish, Cantonese, etc.:D

It is truly an embarrassment. I can only imagine the foreigners laughing at how B-grade this presentation truly is. The previous Olympic presentation is suddenly preferable (although was equally cringe-worthy).

Why do they feel the need to screw with this all the time?

Put Miranda Kerr in the next one, and you might have my attention (the first few times, anyway).

I didn't mind the Olympic one, but the cricket one is pathetic!

The forced clapping and high-fives

I have had 2 FA's now shut the video off before the clapping at the end

10/10 for them!

This really reminds me of something that Virgin Blue would have done a few years back.......

On a recent flight the safety broadcast was so loud it hurt my ears and I covered them whilst watching. The FA came and spoke to me later about it telling me that she had turned the sound down as low as it would go but they still had the problem of excessive volume.

I don't like it and will be glad when Qantas change it and hopefully use people who are more relevant to customers.

The first time I experienced it, I had no screen (I think I was in 4A/4F on a BSI 738 where screens can only be raised after take-off). I wondered what on earth all the clapping was about (as I imagine most from overseas would when sitting in seats with in-arm IFE)... Similarly, I also cringe at the "Captain, Captain" line - it does seem very forced haha! I usually try to watch the safety demo - more out of courtesy to the crew, even though I could probably recite it verbatim (with the exception of all the little cricket comments added to the latest one)... when there are so many cringe-worthy spots in the cricket one, it does make it difficult! :D

Now with Qantas being a major supporter of Les Misérables, would it be too much to ask to have a Les Mis-themed safety demo? On the marketing side, free advertising for the film that QF is sponsoring, which would also have people actually paying attention to the demo for a change! ;) (lol.........)

I LOATHE this video. I couldn't care less for cricket, but the thunderous applause and poor acting is actually what gets my attention the most, not the safety aspects. It hurts my ears, is poorly executed, and I can't believe anyone would create this concept or approve it.

It's actually quite embarrassing. I'm literally counting to the end of Summer (which I assume is the end of the cricket season) so I never have to watch this travesty EVER again.

I could not agree more than with the general consensus here. I just wished I had thought to start this thread myself!

It is embarrassing, it is cringe-making and, worse still given its message, it is counter-productive given that people are either physically repulsed by it or laugh at it. Hardly the audience engagement you want for a safety video.

"Hallo capten, hallo capten". I mean, who dreams this cough up? And the bit at the end "I just wish I could get these blokes to foller moi instructions" followed by all that crass cat-whistling and high-fiving is, frankly, disgusting.

QF, if you are reading this, I have a wager for you: I bet you didn't focus group this. And, if you did, sack your market researcher immediately. It is loathsome rubbish and QF should be ashamed of it. We expect, and are entitled to, more from our national carrier.

They should just keep to the basics:
1- you have a seat belt like in your car
2- if a mask fall on your head don't try to put it back whence it came put it on your face
3- follow the lights on the floor if the cabin is full of smoke
4- don't inflate your life jacket inside the aircraft especially underwater
5- brace for impact

No Olympians, no cricketers, no Pulp Fiction actor!

RedRoo - the gist of negative responses says it all - this safety video would be more applicable (and appreciated) on a Jetstar flight to Bali (or on A36-001/002 PM's RAAF 737's) - it should be removed from QF International as a minimum - cringe is the polite response!

I agree whole heartedly with the cringe-worthyness of this safety video. Like ChrisCh I watch and listen to the safety videos out of courtesty to the crew and hoping that, in an emergency, it'll kick in instinctively, but I draw the line at this one. I reckon if I stop to high five everyone during an emergency exit, it'll slow me down too much.

However, I wonder if the QF safety folk may have successfully looked deep into their customer's minds and decided they want to get the attention of the less frequent flyers and something which is even notable for its tackyness will get people's attention? The worst aspects of this video are, after all, at the end.

And of curse there's always some marketing weenie who is going to badger QF management about getting 'full value' out of QF's cricket sponsorship.

Just saw it for the first time this morning, cringeworthy doesn't even come close to describing this video. It almost makes me want to ignore it just so I don't have to see it again which kinda defys the purpose of having a safety video IMHO...

Considering the amount we have talked about this safety video compared to the others means it has hit a mark that people remember it. Whether for the right or wrong reasons remains to be seen..
