Qantas Courtesy Upgrade Love

I don't know if this is trend but recently I have been given op-ups when parts of my trip have not gone to schedule, e.g. delayed flights and missed connections, or technical issues with planes.

Saying that, on one trip where the flight was 9 hours late and initially arrived at a different airport, and on another 24 hours late, there was no subsequent op-up, nor any compensation. Food vouchers and two overnight hotel stays were included.
Based on these replies, is it possible to calculate a success rate?

I was moved from QF4 to QF140 due to QF4 being late and would mean I’d miss QF295. Thought they may show me some love for having to get to the airport earlier (they tried to charge me for the flight change?!) but alas it wasn’t the case.

Has anyone had any luck scoring a comp upgrade on any of the E190 opby Alliance services recently?

Was hoping I may have had a chance this morning MEL-LST as there were zero pax in the 10 seat J cabin but alas no such luck this time.

I have a feeling it's only happening when there is an operational need, then just rebranding as a loyalty thing.

I just got off a completely full 737, late departing and they were paging 2 passengers, one was a free upgrade to the last J seat, heard FA"s debating whether to wait or leave without the free upgrade, 30 secs later he boarded, heard FA ask "where were you" but i didn't hear the reply.

Not technically a courtesy upgrade but J wasn’t sold on yesterday’s QF1950 E190 ADL-DRW flight so was able to sit in the J cabin. Didn’t eat and then slept for the rest of the flight so was essentially the same as if I had payed anyways.
