Not sure if this has been noted before but I just got of the phone with qantas club and they advised that the fees will be going up as from 1 October 2007. Would not say how much the increase was.

All I can say is HOORAY, I wish they'd put it up more often, might encourage the CUB's not to renew their membership and make the club less like grand central station and more like the quiet sanctuary it once was.

As a Life Member I also say HOORAY :D .

I don't believe there has been a price increase for over 3 years. Anyone know when the last increase was?

How dare people actually buy memberships and then have the gall to actually make use of the lounge. hrrrmmm

I purchased a life membership some years ago as i was doing a lot of domestic Y and thought it was good value being under 30 (then not now) and taking a chance QF and the lounge will still be around some years yet, so far its paid for itsself for sure. (But i also get it with status now as well but i never thought i would)

Ok you lost me on CUB. May someone enlighten me?

14% !!??!! Hang on ...... that means I will pay more than $100/year the next time I renew.

What a rip-off!!

IMHO "true" airport lounges should only be available to economy pax if they have status. It prolly sounds horribly elitist, but economy travellers who rarely fly should have their own separate lounge. It doesn't work when an airline tries to simultaneously achieve two conflicting goals: pampering frequent premium class travellers with a secluded haven, and also squeezing money outta cashed-up economy-class non-travellers who wanna raid the bar before their flight. See Red Carpet/Admirals Club for evidence of where this contradictory policy leads.

Perhaps Qantas could downgrade QC lounges into something more like Priority Pass and send only paid QC members there. Then, open up their First class lounges for Sapphires & J pax. (I'm sure the F pax would whinge but the greater good would be achieved, and the airline's real bread-&-butter profit-payers -- J class -- would be delighted.)

Hmm...? :D

Well that's almost what they're doing, at least domestically, by opening J/Plat lounges next year. As someone who chooses to only fly in J it is something I am very much looking forward to.

Perhaps that is why Qantas is introducing new Business Class (only..)Lounges.......that an the obvious increaded push by Virgin chasing business travellers...ie their new Status System

It would seem to me that Qantas is heading along the lines of...

** Qantas Club for those flying Economy, but who are eother Qantas Club Members or who have status.

** New Business Class Lounges for Domestic travel for those you are actually flying Business Class. It will be interestng see if it is kept to those who have a Business Class ticket...or whether they let those with status in as well, and if so at what status. There would for example be some Plat members who are at companies which havea corporate policy of economy for domestic flying, but who earn top status through international business trips.

The new Business Class lounges are slated to allow access to WP (and we assume OWE).

@Dave Noble I think the point the FIFO miners was not that they were using their entitlements but that Qantas have discounted the membership fee so greatly that the ease of obtaining it has devalued the product (gee something sells for a lower price and it becomes less exclusive - where are my economic text books...)

@Acampbel $100 per year? sheesh you could drink that much beer in a couple of trips - your corporation must put a fair bit of travel through QF to get such a discount...

It does seem that there is a complaint that they dare become members. They arnt the only people to get discount memberships; the company I work for has a v low corporate rate too

You make it sound like a disease .... and maybe in some way it is!

Yes - it does

What's rarely? Less than you, perchance?

I think Qantas have more mature goals than these.

Ahhh..... now we get down to the real story. So you want people who actually pay for lounge membership to get a second-class facility, whereas pseudo-elites like yourself (most of whom achieve status on the back of travel paid for by their company) think themselves worthy of a "First Class" experience.

I don't think so.
