Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Personally I'd say it'd be worth the money. You have at least 6 airports you'll be spending time at over the next year. Plus if you do any other flights during the year it brings the price per visit down.

Hmmm.. yeah, that is true - it's just trying to convince my other-half that it will be money well-spent - that it is actually worth nearly $800 to join..

I'm researching it at the moment (thanks to whoever it was who posted the tip about looking at the "is it worth it" posts regarding the cost of joining the QANTAS Club btw - I'm slowly going through them) - but I can't seem to find anything that will likely convince him!

You do know that you can save about $200 of that through this site, right? Still a fair investment, but it helps a bit I would guess.

The Australian Frequent Flyer - Membership Levels

Given the nature of your trip, it's like a $250 premium on each of your airfares - sounds better when you say it like that, but of course, the value is only really what you think you will get out of it. :)

Yeah I do know about the discount, I forgot to factor that in! But you're absolutely right, it does sound a lot better when we think of it that way, perhaps I could use that approach.. we did get a pretty good deal on the airfares (they were a red sale fare) so I could try and see how that approach goes! Very good point - thanks for that! :D

Comfortable seating, free booze, free food (international still has decent food I've found), showers (lifesaver in the middle of loooong trip, trust me on that), and all in all it'll help make your travel experience better.

Failing that, do a cheap short domestic trip (day trip somewhere) with your other half and use your comp passes to convince him it's a good idea, plus think of the extra points...

Hmmm.. what extra points? Have I missed something? Do you earn extra QFF points if you're a member?

That might be the selling point - for me at least! :D

No you only get "extra points" if you take your other half on a "qantas club is worth it" run...

I think harvyk meant 'brownie' points. ;)

I have to agree though, I took my SO on such a run before our own honeymoon, and in return she ended up getting WP and then tossing me PG like leftover casino chips. Once you go lounging, you can't go back! ;)

aaaaaah, gotcha

But HE is the one who should be earning the brownie points, not me haha :D

......well, in a manner of speaking anyway

Considering the amount of travel you're doing, I'd put my vote in the 'buy a membership' camp.

I did exactly that back in 2003 before I had any status with QF. Friend and I were about to embark on a 14 airports in 2 1/2 weeks trip around the world (AA/BA/QF only) and decided the money was worth it.

Ever since I could not go back to a normal airport departure gate waiting area. Also, remember that the large first year fee is significantly dampened for renewal, as they have a huge chunk of a sign up fee.

And as others have mentioned, paying the $50 for gold here saves you substantially too. If you add it up at say an average of $35-45 per visit per person, based on your travel, you're not really going to be out of pocket (and you'll have lounge access for the 12 months).

No I meant extra points... Take other half on short dom flight to prove that qantas club is worth it, earn minimum 2000 points and 20 SC's for doing those flights... each if one is FF member and the other becomes a QP member...

Of course depending on destination of the short trip away, there are also brownie points to be won...

The other value of being a paid member with unlimited access is for the unexpected and or long delays .

ie My last paid QF international.

MEL flight 5 hours late leaving!!!!!!! QF lounge made the delay bearable.

Late departure meant we missed our LAX connection t JFK...so another 3 hours delay. Again lounge access made the delay bearable.

On my return flight after checking loadings and knowing there were 3 PE seats up for grabs by Y travellers (which I could not access by phone or online as I had already checked in - seats became available afterwards) I made the decision to be first in-line at check-in and so got to JFK 3.5 hours early.

Beinga QC Member meant that I was in the poirity ckeck-in line and so when they opened at 3 hours prior they served me first.

Scored two PE seats :) and then made use of the lounge for 3 hours.

Philosiphier, have to put my foot in the "get a QC membership" camp rather than relying or hoping that you can find somebody to guest you both into the Lounge.

Yes, a happy wife is a happy life, so he'd better agree to it, or you can always withdraw favours :D

hehe yeah, withdraw favours - that might be the ticket (har har har)

Anyway guys, thanks so much for all of your advice - if we do decide to definitely travel OS towards the end of the year, I think we might invest in a club membership.

Does anyone know how long it might take to:

a) Join FFC to get the group/business discount
b) Then apply for QC membership and have it all approved/confirmed & cards sent out?

I'm just wondering how late I can leave it to make a decision..

Thanks again for all your advice and suggestions - you're a wonderful crew (har har har - again! )

Zoe.

Slightly off-topic... Speaking of QP showers, I have been through some Intl QP's before but never used the showers there.
a)are they generally clean and in good condition?
b)do they provide towels for use?
