Yay for TID - they've come through for me - again

Just received this email:

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

This policy offers cover under Section 2: Cancellation costs for the reasonable cost of rearranging your trip prior to you travelling because something unforeseen and outside of your control occurs, provided that this cost is not greater than the cancellation fees or lost deposits which would have been incurred had the trip been cancelled.

You are welcome to make a claim for consideration now or once you have returned back home. To submit a claim, you will need to complete a claim form. For more information on how to make a claim, please click here.

Nice that they came through, but I have no idea how to interpret this part.

I recognise they say "reasonable", so basically don't book the best suite in the Conrad or the W then expect to be sent a cheque for that cost...

Clearly I need some more education on all these lounges.

I'm travelling J and am QP member but lowly silver.

Travelling around 7pm. CX obviously. Which lounges would you suggest for nice Champagne? :p

But if the new Qantas Club has it's grand opening on Saturday 5th April well then of course I will be waiting for my special AFF invite from Red Roo. :p

Try them all. You are a fitter than me and I think you should be able to try all 5 lounges with a sparkling in each lounge in ~2 hours. Perhaps less. It is a maximum of 5-10 minutes walk between each lounge.

they will either cover the cancellation costs (imposed by the airline or tour provider) or let you rearrange your plans so you can continue your holiday.

but the cost of rearranging your plans cannot exceed any cancellation penalties. the insurance company will take whichever option is the least expensive to them.

Once did the Cathay, Qantas, BA and Emirates lounges in Singapore in 2 hours so its definitely possible. (Cathay isn't a real Cathay lounge though)

Well, I just reboooked the accommodation I had already paid for with an extra night. I think that's reasonable - I would have lost a night if I had taken the direct flight on the two nights prior (the one in the middle being cancelled) so I would have been claiming for that as it was pre-paid. But in any case there were no seats available on that flight, nor the indirect flight via Melbourne for a J Award seat.

But you never know, do you. I think there is a $100 gap. So for TID - about $300 - I did book a Club Room at the Langham Place. I would have been able to stay for the night's Champagne anyway as my original flight left at midnight. Other than a comfy bed and nice breakfast and a few hours of the day, the new departure time is around 5pm so not exactly a whole new day.

The lounges in SIN are a bit closer together than HKG IIRC...

You know, it's more the fact they've cancelled the flight and not a shred of concern for the inconvenience and extra cost.

Are you a valued CX customer? If unsure, ask them and see what their response is.

I take it that the flight cancellation is some time off. Would that have weakened the TID case for an insurance claim?

TID paid up for me with accommodation and meals when the volcano came along several years back, but that was entirely different as nobody was flying anywhere anyway.

I have arrived near Transfer C, walked to Transfer D, then Skyview lounge, BA lounge, Qantas lounge then walked to Skytrain to go to T2 then walked back to Qantas lounge then back to Skytrain and T2, momentarily in MH lounge then to gate for MH flight in a ~2 hour transit.

Walking does you the world of good after long flight.

It is 2 months away but TID knew that when I asked them. It's moot as the result doesn't change. With a cruise there are a few zeros involved. They wouldn't want me to cancel.

I'm quite sure CX doesn't value me. :p

I know this is OT but I've been on QM2 twice and QE and QV once each so if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

I've been on QM2 once before but just for four nights. Needless to say, as that time I travelled with my 85 year old mother and for such a short time, there is much unfinished business.

Which ship do you prefer?

Hard question. It depends on the itinerary I think. Qm2 is pretty special but due to her massive size needs to use container ports a fair bit. Both times have been quite long, segments of the world cruise of about 20 days each. In a storm on the high seas it's no contest qm2 can ride huge waves and you hardly feel it. The other 2 ships are almost identical, just slightly different theming.

Yes, it's all about the itinerary. Mine is 23 days. Her size is an issue. At least in Sydney they've increased the port. Last time I was on was the first berth at the OPT. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1392015869.716477.jpg

In Brisbane it will be the Grain Terminal and we have to tender in Malaysia. Shanghai is fine and we berth at the new Terminal in Kowloon which used to be the original Hong Kong airport.
