Realising that when international flights start again I thought I would order some Qtags for my trips, should have been an easy task, not so. So on the phone I go, enter my details ffn and pin and was answered promptly then was asked all the details, full name, address, date of birth, mothers maiden name , so I gave them a few more for the record, my waist size, shoe size the dogs name and what cars we have in the stable.

Rant over.

I could understand them asking the name and address, especially when it comes to ordering something that is coming in the post. You might've triggered a security warning somehow and so they wanted to verify the DoB and your mother's maiden name too (both of which are security questions)

Edit: QTags also don't work internationally, only domestically

Sometimes it can be a little too many questions but data security is important

I can say that I have never used the Qantas bag tag. Perhaps I’ve missed something. Although I recall some posts about their use as drink coasters.

I can say that I have never used the Qantas bag tag.

I was once forced to use them. When I was pulled out of the check in queue with a "can I see your FF card please" and then she wouldn't print out bag tags, made me use my QTag which I had on my carry on (The check in bag ultimately got lost but unsure if that was because of the tag or just baggage incompetence)

What’s happening at the QF call centre today? My calls to QF over the past week have been answered within seconds. Today, still waiting for a call back over 7 hours.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Booked a room at Hilton Double Tree Cairns for NYE via Qantas site they took my points and money, then they cancelled it, had second try ditto, so now they had two lots points and double money, as usual it took 2 hours to get through to call centre (it's normally 3+ hours! for past year or so!), when I did get through could hardly hear the person as there was so much voice noise in the background.

The call centre person was so hard to understand, he had no idea how to refund these particular points so he put me on hold 3 times!, finally points were reinstated, funds who knows when, so Allan please stop calling Qantas a world class airline it's far from it, bring the call centre back home and give the jobs to Aussies!.

"can I see your FF card please"
Whoa! why did the agent pick you out of a line ? Were you on the premium pax queue or something? I mean, I NEVER had to show my FF card .. like ever ... I mean if they need to verify your membership status, class of travel & such, they could've asked for, in your case, a booking reference number or the e-ticket or simply running an ID through the scanner will bring your details (as long as the Given & Family names match) .. isn't it?

and then she wouldn't print out bag tags, made me use my QTag which I had on my carry on

Did they give you a good reason why they couldn't print out baggage tags ? Or did they just give a blanket reason (sorry we can't print bag tags because of CoVID) ?
(The check in bag ultimately got lost but unsure if that was because of the tag or just baggage incompetence)

Jeez! did you get reunited with the bag? any updates?
