Offering a meat-free dish is not forcing vegetarianism.

It is if there is no other option available. And soup is a starter not a main.

I never mentioned 100% meat diet - that ridiculous assertion was invented by you. Of course i eat fruit and veg and some grains but they are an accompaniment and do not make a complete satisfying meall imo.

My point iwas it is very easy to get a guranteed vegetarian or vegan meal by placing a special order but there isnt that facility available to ensure you get the hot animal protein option. Therefore there needs to be sufficient animal protein meals loaded for evey J pax who hasnt ordered a special meal.

Of course it is! And “if a vegan option is so important to you, maybe you should plan ahead…” and simply pre-order a special veggie meal. Which one cannot do with the “beef meal”.

So in my mind, as long as that greens with greens dish is available as a special meal option, there is no need at all to offer a veggie based option on the regular menu, let alone having this as the only option in an from row 2 which is just ludicrous. Unless this is all nothing but a hidden cost saving exercise, of course… ;-)

I eat meat. I wouldn't think it's acceptable to require me to pre-order a meat dish.

I don't think being vegetarian is so unusual or special, that it requires someone to pre-order that meal.

Having a vegetarian option on a menu is completely fine.

If Qantas is not loading enough meat dishes to cater to those who wish to eat meat, then that is a different problem.

Everyone can eat vegetarian. And loading more meat meals… not everyone likes the same meat. I could load 6 pork and have 2 people tell me they can’t eat pork.

At least with vegetarian every one can eat it?

I’m not sure that’s correct.

There may be specific vegetables or ingredients to which a passenger may be allergic.

if the threshold you’re applying is “can eat”, that would apply equally to meat.

Excluding a small number of pax with allergies of any kind, the vast majority of pax can eat either meat or vegetarian dishes.

Whether QF provides sufficient catering to meet the preferences of all passengers is a different matter.

Intolerance for corriander is real, its genetic and why its polarising as those frrom ethnicities with low prevelance of that gene put it in everything guaranteeing that meal is inedible for those with the gene because it tastes like you put detergent in the dish.

Including animal protein (eggs or meat or fish or poultry) at all 3 meals is healthy and not unusual.

The number of business flyers changing flight times is quite small, as usually there arent available J seats so it means a downgrade to whY.

This edge case shouldnt prevent the reintroduction of the abilty to pre order meals (which would also speed up service as less discussion needed with each passenger) nor is it an excuse to under cater meat options favouring the cheaper veggie ones.

I agree with pre-order would be great. Even if it is just pre-order of the meal choices for that flight.

I don't see why QF can't do it for international routes; I mean, they did it before. I'd like to talk to any QF insider who maybe can comment on the Select on Q initiative and whether it was a huge headache or what not.

Of course, IMO QF made a huge mistake by selling off their catering division. Now they have a lot less control over how catering works and thus how tightly they can offer services like specific dish pre-ordering, let alone giving customers the menu in advance, the latter being a service offered by a good number of airlines around the world.

People changing last minute should know the risks. No airline can realistically guarantee that someone being upgraded (prior or last minute) or bumped out or making a last minute change or booking hours before departure will retain all customisations, amongst those meal preferences. If it happens, then great, but it can't be guaranteed.

It's not say an intolerance. Yes, those with the gene thinks that coriander tastes like detergent or soap. Now unless you somehow like the taste of soap (perhaps someone who swore too much when they were younger), your senses are going to tell you not to eat it. But if you happen to consume it, you won't be physiologically in danger, unlike someone with an allergy.

No one can force someone to eat coriander if they don't want to, but to carry on like the world is trying to kill them is a bit much.

QF cannot do it because they sold their catering division and no longer have control.
