Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Menus were waiting on the armrest when we boarded QF196 from WLG to BNE. I've not seen that before on a trans-Tasman 737.

I went with the Nasi goreng that was, unusual. The salad was good. Ice cream brought out after trays were cleared, and not like a block of ice.

The wine was something that I hadn't had before, a Greco, and it was very nice.

Cant say Ive noticed the warning that meals do not contain pork products on other routes before. I would be very annoyed if there was not an option on the breakfast menu with bacon - if there is no bacon its not breakfast!

QF went bacon/pork free when they forged the EK tie up in 2013, it’s been making a muted comeback since

Wasn’t that only QF1/2 specifically? They immediately reverted to a broader menu after the switch to SIN.

Standard on QF flights to / from CGK and you’ll never see pork on the ME airlines anywhere.

Quite the opposite on QF flights to/from HKG however!

It’s not written on the menus, but there was no beef on flights to / from DEL.

The breakfast options look lame and sparse… a muffin or fruit.
Domestic or International?

International is still multi-option on most longhaul sectors (juice, tea/coffee, fruit, muesli, yoghurt, toast/pastry jams, and choice of hot meal (eggs, pancakes, etc).

eg DEL-SYD last week

Given QF 46 is in the air for around 5-5.5 hours I’d say there’d only be around 3 hours at most between dinner finishing and breaky starting so probably not a real need for a full breakfast.

I think it's reference to the shorter flights back from Asia - such as DPS above.
CGK-SYD on the A330 has the regular breakfast menu card with the same options I listed above (as does SIN, BKK, HKG, MNL).

I can’t speak for the few 737 redeye services. Wild horses couldn’t drag me to one of those these days.

I can’t speak for the QF DPS-SYD flights that are on the A330 but we even stopped flying DPS and CGK back to Australia with GA because of this. We love the GA flights over there but coming home is terrible. By time they finish dinner service you get around 2hrs sleep before they are waking you for breakfast. Unless it’s a last resort we won’t fly anything less than around the 8hr mark

You can skip breakfast on QF or just select an express option. The dinner service is usually pretty quick.

I just stay up and watch movies now - it’s too short to really get quality sleep and I don’t need to be a work when I land!

As you say, it is a very short overnight flight although the CSM I encountered in July 2025 managed to get everyone (who wanted to eat) in the Business cabin fed with lights out 90 minutes after our departure from DPS. He also managed to push the breakfast service as close to our arrival into MEL as possible (45 minutes before touch down from memory) maximising our rest time. It was a 4h50 minute flight (as we got track shortened approaching MEL), so we had about 2h30 of rest, or a little bit longer if we chose not to have breakfast.

Truth be told, it was a much nicer experience than I was expecting.

P.S.: In my humble opinion, that muffin is to die for. How could you not want one when the smell of it being reheated in the oven comes wafting down the aisle? :D

As I reported a few posts previously, I flew QF42 CGK-SYD recently and got the breakfast options just like our fellow member here flying from DPS: raisin muffin and/or fruit plate.

Personally I couldn't be bothered with a full breakfast as a full dinner is served on a flight with a block time of just under 7 hours. The selection doesn't scream J breakfast, but I get it; that said, maybe offering a few hot pastries (danishes) or yoghurt might be nice. Maybe even a toastie?

Doesn't work well for anyone who would eat before the flight and intend to have the substantial meal before arrival. That's something that I believe SQ J offer - their meal selection has both dinner and breakfast dishes on it. You choose which dish you want and when to be served; presumably you only choose one service (unless the crew are being generous).
