Qantas Business Class meals & menus

First issue I is that they are no caterers in any of those ports. Second issue is 737 doesn't have chilled storage. 737 can be double catered but the food would spoil. If there was any physical way of doing it, like in HBA where the meals get taken inside to be kept chilled, they would do that but it isn't possible due to the length of the flights there.

I understand there are logistical challenges, but they do not necessary preclude solutions.

Could Qantas work with the airport in Apia to secure access to a refrigerator to keep meals chilled overnight? (Perhaps biosecurity rules would rule this out.)

Even then... some airlines source catering from local hotels at certain destinations. Someone caters the business lounge in Apia. Ditto for the cafe at the airport that sells at least basic sandwiches, yogurts, etc., and we all know QF has no problem with toasties. 😉

I get that for a small subset of Pacific flights, Qantas has decided it's not worth the hassle. That doesn't detract from nor excuse the poor service and pax experience, and I'm not convinced that it is genuinely impossible to come up with some sort of better alternative. Rather, they just don't want to bother coming up with or paying for one.

Regardless, they threw a form letter response and 10,000 QF points at me, which I suppose is worth more than an omelette anyway, so there we go.

:( should be dressing. did you ask? (wonder if it was just forgotten for your tray, or it wasn’t loaded)
I should have asked but didn’t. Looking at the menu now, it does mention dressing.

Overall felt like a downgrade from the last time I flew QF J long haul.

Breakfast was solid though. I feel like QF’s breakfasts tend to be better than their dinners.

(I should have moved the toast before taking a photo!)

QF1278 during the week, which is the 3:55pm MEL - CBR service:

Only one option offered (tandoori chicken pie), which tasted okay but would have been better if sauce was provided.

I wasn't expecting a lot given the flight duration and time of day, but was still a little bit underwhelmed compared to my VA experiences on the same route. Had it on my mind that something like a nice light salad would have been desirable.

What sauce would you have had with a Tandoori Chicken pie?
Tomato relish (not sauce) would go OK with this.

Mint yoghurt sauce or sweet tamarind would go well. But I'd reckon they'd be harder to source.

A chutney would also go rather well. Once again, probably not easy to source.

We had a chutney with the [non tandoori] chicken pie! But on SYD-MEL we also had the mushy peas. Not sure it takes a whole lot longer to eat the peas… CBR flights could prolly manage them :)

That looks so sad😥

Can they use dry ice to store the meals for the return leg? BA does this in Europe for aircraft nightstopping - the breakfasts for the next days early morning flight are loaded in London and stored overnight in the aircraft using dry ice.
