Balinese chicken curry with snake beans and rice. Actually, I'm not sure if they are very small snake beans or garlic shoots. Other option was a falafel and hummus salad. I was in 3F and both options were still available when I was served.

Accompaniments were a flourless orange cake and sourdough bread with Pepe Saya butter.

The curry tasted fine, with decent and fragrant flavour in the sauce. While it was fine for me, some people may have wanted to add some salt, as it kind of lacks a bit of punch you expect in curries. It was far from tasteless, however. Chicken was moist enough and not tough.

Za'atar spiced beef gozleme, served with rocket and parmesan garnish salad. Accompaniments of a bread roll and Koko Black macadamia and wattleseed chocolate bar. Other option was a Ploughman's platter.

The gozleme was stuffed with spiced minced beef, spinach and cheese. It was presented with a pastry top and bottom, so it was more like an open stack then a true gozleme. Overall tasty, though a bit salty for my liking. Quite dry (though most gozlemes in the kebab shop are) and the pastry, while fine, might be something people might take or leave, given the timing of the flight. The pastry was not crispy (and again, most gozlemes aren't crispy).

QF1264 (Qantaslink) MEL-BNE dep 2200 a/c 222

The last flight out of MEL that night, arriving at an ungodly hour in BNE (airport staff there probably annoyed that we're keeping them from going home). So was rather fascinated what would be the choices on a flight like this.

I had the salad of hot smoked salmon, dill, spinach, wilted cherry tomatoes and potatoes, with a shallot vinaigrette. I think it's supposed to be inspired by a Niçoise salad (but no eggs or capers). Accompaniments of a salted caramel and walnut sticky date cake and sourdough with Pepe Saya butter. Other option was a Djerba chicken curry with rice.

Smoked salmon was a decent amount (was not expecting a whole steak), definitely smoked and tasted good, but like a lot of hot smoked salmons, it was dry. Thank goodness the vinaigrette was there (as well as the moist cherry tomatoes). Can't really go wrong with salted caramel and sticky date, unless you're supposed to be counting your sugar.

Given the flight is 2 hours and there are a mere 10 passengers, CSM conducted the meal service relatively slowly (no! not J on Global Airlines inaugural service slow). First flight for me on the new QF A220; I notice that the PA system has been loaded with stock announcements, which were fully utilised by the crew (a la VA). I think they might have even used the same voice as the VA announcements. Interestingly, I can see the touch screen system at the front near the crew seats, and the PA module shows all the preloaded PAs in a list (with titles of what the PA is); when a PA is played, it shows a bar with the time remaining counting down.
